Just wanted to start a New thread on this subject. Curious to know what will be the fallout.

Personally I would like to see all of these spas get some sort of licence and carry on business. Some owners had put in a lot of financial commitments and it is very sad if they have to close.

I think the City will visit more often to make sure these businesses are operating properly. It's likely that they will continue to issue infractions which will eventually hit the landlord's taxbill, At which point, the spas will be forced to close to down. I'd give it 3 months.

These infractions - are they not directed at the spa itself. Why would it hit the landlord's tax bill.

If they go unpaid the city will try and collect by other means.

It would be a shame to see the classier MPA’s of Richmond Hill have to deal with the Scarlem crowd..

I hope the spa owners are able to work out the permits and keep their businesses in check before the last date but alas a big chunk of them will probably fold and many of our favourites will disappear as they probably don’t want to register their names to the b0dyrub business/license.

There’s too many spas, not enough attendants with any skills , when a girl that comes out of restaurant job or an old lady that’s not had any experience other than a wife or mother gets to go home with 3-4 hundred a day tax free and eventually opens their own spa , no business experience required, just put a lock box on the door , stop by on the way back from the casino, pick up the cash and bobs your uncle , something had to be done, anyhow !

Interesting take but probably have some truth /reality check.

Just to piggyback on your question...I am curious as to how will it affect the individual and collective hobbyists ?
ie supply,demand, service, prices. etc

I suspect....
"Where there is a will"...the businesses/ girls/ promoters/ owners ......"will find a way"

Necessarity is the Mother of Invention.

I am sure there will be some creative solutions out there.

As I mentioned in the other thread, many of these spas do not even have a licence to operate.

The Personal Care Licence - only the RMT can do a Full body Massage. Others can do Foot Massage etc. Unfortunately many of these Richmond Hill Spas do not even have this licence never mind the Body Rub one.

Assuming it is not a joke, what is happening April 1st? Are new Richmond Hill by-laws going into effect or is enforcement stepping up? Tried to read up but did not find any news articles.

Many spas i think will close up and wait it out.

Some may try to open discretly.

Other may have applied for the license and will wait to see if they can open.

Either way EBC will be quiet tomorrow as many people will take the wait and see approach.

Licensing will make their rounds in the next week or so. They wont force the closure of the spas. But will definitely be ticketing any spa that's open without a proper license.

It's not a new by law.

Pre existing one that they decided to now enforce.

Many spas have been operating illegally, but no one cared. Now it's just a different story. Could be the city is just hurting for money now.

The money from lincences barely will enough for 1 nite lights in the city. it's something else

I was told personal care is not good in R Hill. no foot massage or head massage without lic, Osteo lic and Holistic lic are not good in R Hill.

Getting RMT lic to keep the spa open is no big deal but all employees must have RMT lic to perform massage is quite impossible.
