A good snowboard for a newbie?

Alright im new to snowboarding.
Im 14 about 5'6 and around 120 pounds.
Im buying a snowboard for the season.

So what is a good snowboard?
I want something nice but also sorta fashionable
No pink please.
And i dont have thousands of dollars to spend.
Anything helps

get a Ride Fleetwood.
theyre only 350, and they are great. i rented one last year and liked it more than a couple burtons i used, and it was thrashed, being a rental..

hey adam up there you are wrong.... you should be on a shorter board than a 155, i bet your park game would get a lot better if you went shorter... and this girl should not be in that range.....

the best range for you is in the 147-153 range..... 147 all park... 153 all alpine.... in the middle for all mountain...

i wouldnt get anything burton unless you get a proform and get it for 60-70% off ... your just paying for the name with Burton they do make good product but the are highly overrated and and overpirced.... plus there are plenty other companies that are a lot cheaper that make even better boards than Burton... for examply Lib Tech and Gnu they have the best boards with the best technology out rite now

First, use a snowboard calculator to decide what size range to look at which will ask you what type of riding you will be doing - for a beginner get a more flexible all-mountain board which is directional - not as good for the park (if you like that) but easier to learn on.

For size, this says start around 145cm. If you are still growing you could size the board a little longer - maybe 147cm. Make sure the board you pick is correct for your weight (which is how you size a snowboard - not if it goes to your chin or nose).

I would suggest K2, Ride, Roxy beginner board - especially if you can find a pre-season clearance.

I'd suggest the Burton Supermodel ICS.
It has a pretty nice design, and its not overly expensive.
As for bindings, because you would have the new ICS, you would have to pair it up with a new EST binding.. I recommend the Escapade bindings.
I prefer Burton because they have been in the snowboarding business for so long, and know what they are doing.
I ride the Gtwin 150 with the Lexa EST binding. It has done great for me.

The calculator at http://www.frostyrider.com is a pretty good one. I'm about your size and ride a 147 for all mountain. For park you could go down to about 144 and for a powder board up to 154 would be about the limit. Longer for a beginner would be harder to control. I'd suggest getting an all mountain board. I've heard good things about the Burton Feather for beginners. Also, I like the Ride Solace. K2 is a good brand too (check out the Luna). Also GNU, Rome, Roxy, and Nitro are good brands to look into. You really can't go wrong with those brands as long as you're not getting anything too advanced for you (i.e., too stiff).

You need a size board between 152-158. The board should come up to your lower lip. I ride a 155 and do jumps. I weigh 125 and im 5'4"... talk to the people at Skibonkers and they'll help you out with bindings and boots...
I think Skibonkers might only be in Washington though...

i hate to burst your bubble but if your buying a new board you gonna have to spend a bit of money, i would go to your local mountain and check out their sale... it probably wont be happening for another 2-3 months but you will save money and get a good opinion from the people who are there. but if i were to recommend any bindings or a board i would say some forum bindings of any sort just pick your favorite, got to really any snowboarding website and you will find some for instance ccs.com would work and for a board i would say ride compact board its $380 which is a pretty good price for a 2010 board from ride. so i hope i helped! and feel free to email me if you want info on some other boards or websites. but if you want to go online as tahoe said go to frosty rider he put the link up.... but that is a great website.
