A vent thread for Massage Students

Here is a nonvent: We are almost finished with school. YAY!

As the moderator of this section, I do not mind this thread being here for you guys to "vent".

I do ask though that in the course of your venting you DO NOT name schools nor instructors names. Or anyone's actually name for that matter. If you decide to ignore this warning your message will either be edited or deleted. Consider this a "pre warning" with no further ones to come.

So vent away guys....I just want to make sure this thread stays nice

Sounds like the other 5 of you need to get together and talk with the school admin yourselves. If the "slow" student is currently running the show, maybe the administrators need a little push from those who are dissatisfied with the changes and dumbing down of the course.

Tell them that at the current teaching level, you feel like you can no longer recommend this course as a good one to all of your friends and family who ask about your schooling, and you want to know if there's anything they can do to get it to return to its previous quality.

Two things. First, your teacher should be a little more on the ball; in such a small class, he should have noticed a slower student and work with her to help her catch up, or recommend that she repeat a module, or do whatever other teacherly things that he can, so that the administration will have no cause to accuse him of incompetence.

Secondly, your administration ought to be more on the ball and not treat a teacher like that on the basis of one disgruntled student's complaints. If every administration was that stupid and gullible, there'd soon be no teachers left.

I don't think it was appropriate for the teacher to announce his situation to the entire class, and then to get into an altercation with the problem student. I hate to say it but the problem student is only part of the problem here. I hope things work out.

I have to completely agree with you. My first quarter in school I had one instructor who constantly said she was being watched and would actively complain about another instructor to our whole class. I think it was a disservice to herself and to my class that she would complain and place her "problem" onto us. In the end she didn't come back for the second quarter without any sort of notice. We missed our first official day of classes with this instructor due to water issues in the building. Then the first day that we could have class she just didn't show up. When the school got in touch with her she said that she had car and phone trouble. The next class period she didn't show up again and then we found out she sent an e-mail resigning.

I have to admit that her little stunt really upset me because this set our class back terribly. We are now just two weeks away from the end of the quarter for this class and have not taken any tests or quizzes and are playing catch up. Problem with this is that if we have less tests and quizzes and fail anything or do poorly on anything there are less opportunities to pull up our grades. Plus I worry about the material we didn't get.
