Amethyst BioMat?

Someone contacted me today offering to let me use a demo model of one of these: http://www.biomathealth.com/ (got that link from Googling for BioMat)

Researching now, but thought I'd ask here too... anyone know anything about these things? Tried one?

I've received a massage on one (from Brad) ... I remember it being very warm (possibly a little too warm at points - I think I got sweaty on the table) and it was a little more firm than I would have liked.

But honestly, his bodywork was so good I didn't care what else was happening. I might have been on fire at one point and still didn't want to move. LOL

It says it warms your insides! Did you feel like you were being microwaved??

I wonder if it's adjustable... I have to adjust my table warmer quite a bit for different clients.

Oh, did it work with a sheet over it? It's non-obvious to me exactly how this thing works given the description of it. Apparently it's only warm when a person lays on it?

LOL! I was the massage tutor when Brad went to school out here. He graduated and moved to San Fran. But came back to visit for a month and brought the mat with him. We did a trade while he was here. I wasn't interested enough to spend that much money. Plus, I don't even use a table warmer so I wasn't very interested.

LOL!!! What an image. It did feel a little like I was being 'cooked'. But he also worked on me for just over 90-minutes. And I do like being warm - just not too warm.

Yes, it was under the sheet. I would think one would want more than one sheet so that if someone did get sweaty the mat didn't get 'wet'. It didn't seem like you could wipe it down. It had a cloth-like feel to it.

Supposedly it's something about the Amethyst in the mat in addition to the warming. Not quite sure as we talked more about it after our sessions and I was quite out of it ...

I've tried them twice and LOVED the experience. I would buy one in a second if I thought it was a good investment for me at this time. They are awfully expensive! My husband is a chiropractor and really wants one for the clinic.

Amethyst BioMat?

In my searches to find *just* the right things for my beginning practice I stumbled onto the Biomat and thought that I would run it by my friends here at MassagePlanetL to see if anyone had any experience with them.

So far it sounds like good feedback but I want more - like who has this in their practice and finds that their clients are noticing a difference? I hope that there are more out there that can update this thread!

Lots of stuff on that site struck me as... odd, to put it kindly. I'd like to see some of the "science" referred to in the marketing text. Here's one gem that really tickled me:

While no theory has been proposed regarding the Amethyst Effect, scientists hypothesize that the infrared light passed through the amethyst releases over 20 million years of information which is made available to the human body for healing purposes.

Really? What scientists? What kind of information? Why do they think it is over "20 million years" of information? How is it "made available to the human body"? How does the body use that info for "healing purposes"? t017

Also, I looked for information on the "Japanese Kurare Super Fiber" which is supposed to generate the majority of the far infrared and negative ions. If the material is truly exceptional, it is probably used in other applications too, right? Turns out, the ONLY references to "Japanese Kurare Super Fiber" in all of Google are found exclusively in BioMat advertisements... and explanations of how it works are... highly suspect:

As people aren't often in areas where there are abundant negative ions, the Biomat helps redress this by producing negative ions. It does this through the Kurera fiber interacting with DC current. The Kurera Super Fiber then generates a discharge of negative ions into the air, and helps convert positive ions in the body into negative ions. Doing this, the body is able to create more calcium and sodium minerals in the bloodstream, creating a healthier, more alkaline state in the body.

I'm no physicist, but these claims seem to violate some fairly well-established laws of physics. It would be instructive to have an actual physicist study these claims and the BioMat, then publish their findings.

At least they remembered to differentiate between "theory" and "hypothesis" -

Buyers Beware. If you love it, you love it... but don't accept the marketing at face value.

Thanks for your response Jason. I searched around for a bit after I made my posting and found that the biomats are also sold via pyramid marketing. They claim that they do it this way to make sure that everyone is paying the same price.... I don't get that at all.

The price on them is pretty steep! I'd need some actual proof of it's claims before shelling out that kind of cash.

I vaguely recall my rolfer having lookined into this or something similar a while back. The next time I call her or see her, I'll make sure to follow up to see if she has any feedback.
