5 indicted in prostitution ring

SCRANTON – Massage parlors in Plains Township and Moosic were being used as
brothels where Asian women were forced into prostitution, U.S. Attorney Peter Smith said
Tuesday.
Smith said the multistate prostitution network often transferred
women, including at least 12 who are undocumented aliens
from the Far East, to five massage parlors and spas, including
the two locally, in the Poconos, New Jersey and Maryland.
A federal grand jury returned an indictment against five people,
including Lih Kang Shen, 46, also known as “Michael,” of
Stroudsburg, whom Smith identified as the network’s leader.
“Several motel facilities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania were
allegedly used by the conspirators as brothels,” Smith said
Tuesday at an afternoon news conference. Smith said he
could not identify the motels.
John Vincent Ferraro, 45, of Bartonsville; Young Ja Youn, 45,
known as “Micky,” of Stroudsburg; Yu Cheng Lee, known as
“Ricky,” 35, of Tannersville; and Cin Hsia Chen, known as
“Judy,” 56, of Briarwood, N.Y., were charged along with Shen
by the grand jury with conspiracy to induce women for the
purpose of prostitution and money laundering.
The investigation began with complaints about suspicious
activity at the massage parlors and spas, said John Kelleghan,

He said customers paid $60 per hour.
Women from China, Korea and Taiwan were forced to perform
sexual acts, according to the indictment. The women were provided condoms and earned
money from customers’ tips.
The indictment alleges a woman was transported by a commercial airline from New
Orleans to Wilkes-Barre on March 7 to work in a local brothel. Seven days after arriving,
Shen instructed Ferraro to transfer the woman to another brothel, according to the
indictment.
Smith said the women were often moved around to avoid suspicion.
Ichiban at 1325 N. River Road, Plains Township, and Oriental Body Works, at 4215 Birney
Ave., Moosic, were the local brothels involved.Spa 611 in Tannersville, Accu Massage in
Bartonsville, and Elite Spa in Overlea, Md., were also used.
Prosecutors will be seeking forfeiture of more than $700,000, including bank account
assets, items in safety deposit boxes, a 2011 BMW, a Rolex watch and real estate.
