I stopped in last night and asked the people working about it. It has been completely gutted on the inside. When you walk in the front there is a new bar running down the entire right side covering about a third of the floor. Running down the entire left side is a step-up sitting area with built in tables. The new owner? came out and I talked with him. I asked about the kitchen area and he said there wasn't going to be one, that he had the pizza place upstairs so he has the whole building. His name is Victor and looked latino but he had very good english. I believe the pizza place is a states thing so he probably spent time there. He said he was trying to open in 2-3 weeks. From the construction aspect he could make this but I don't know about the legal parts as this is what usually holds places up here. I didn't see anywhere there could be dancing girls so I don't know about the strp club thing. On a side note I saw most of the old employees at Harry's Sunday as they had a meeting with Richard about back pay owed. Good luck to them there.

Thanks for the update Seabee. I wonder how many (if any) former bartenders will return to work there? My guess would be two or three. Time will tell. Anyway, it sounds like the bar should certainly be open in July, for my next trip.

That's very interesting, I wonder why anyone would do all of this construction when the liquor license is up for sale, as of April 29. If I had some money, I would open it up just like it was before, only with better food. I loved the little cubbyhole booths where occasionally I could cop a feel, and so would my chica de la noche.

This is up because of new Costa Rican law about the application for new liquor license and the transfer of an existing license. To spare a boring post it is MUCH more difficult and new IMPOSSIBLE to transfer after June 1, 2011.

Maybe the new tenant has a liquor license and does not need the previous tenant's license... who knows.

I talked to the guy in charge of the remodeling the other day. He told me it was going to be a bar opening may 23. No strippers. Totally remodeled inside with a bar running along the right side. He said they would allow the working girls but they would have to buy a drink to sit at the bar. The lower end girls who used to go to the NYB do not like that.

Why would anyone think that the former bartenders at the nyb would have anything to do at the new place? Hazel works at Joe B's Youlenni works at Papis although I heard she got a job at Hooters.

Also, Natalie, the fine-looking Nica (and great belly-dancer ) is pregnant, unless she's already given birth. When I saw her a couple of months ago she was huge!
