Aromatherapy Books Query

Hi, I'm have just registered so hope I post this message right!

I have recently finished an ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage and now am anxiously awaiting my results.

The next course I am hoping to take is an IFA Diploma in Aromatherapy starting in January 2005 and have been told that there are no compulsory books that we need to buy.

Could anyone recommend a couple of good books that may be useful with my course? I love essential oils but currently am a complete novice as to their usage and history etc. Also I will have to complete a business thesis and an aromatherapy thesis during the course and have no idea what topics to base them on so if anyone has any ideas they would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to HP

I have only recently joined too but I know you fill find it a mine of information and full of lovely people too

I am starting an IFA Aromatherapy Diploma next month and have also been told that the course notes cover everything you need to know. However, a number of good books were recommended for those book worms amongst us.

Some good general ones are:- Fragrant pharmacy - valerie Worwood

As I was saying, other good books are:-

Aromatherapy, an A-Z - Patricia Davis
The Directory Of Essential Oils - Wanda Sellar
Aromatherapy For Healing The Spirit - Gabriel Mojay

These last three are my particular favourites, but fragrant pharmacy is useful as it has lots of suggested blends for treating various ailments etc.

I'm sure the more experienced here will be able to add to this. For future reference you will get more responses if you post onto the specific aromatherapy forum, or even the student/training forum. Perhaps some kind sole at HP can move it there for you.

Anyway, hope this helps and good luck with your course - I can't wait for mine !

This is a bunch of things I put together when the forum was moved across a year ago.. has quite a few aroma books. Just got my hands on the Fragrant Heavens and it's really cool too.

I did my IFA in 2003, and passed with distintions which was wonderful...

At college we used at lot of the course notes we were given but l did use

Aromatherapy, an A-Z - Patricia Davis, l found it really useful and still do.

For A & P part we used...

Human Form and Function, Pamela Minett, David wayne and David Rubenstein.

I have some past exam papers and A & P question papers if these would be a help to you

Hi Dolphins

Like Tizana I sat my IFA exams last year in September 04 and passed with Credit.

Your tutor is right you will not need any books as the notes are that comprehensive (In my opinion)

However our tutor was able to purchase on bulk:-The complete guide to aromatherapy by Salvatore Battaglia ISBN:0 646 20670 2 which helped a great deal to explain the chemical side.
