flying in on 4/22-26/2010 i am thingking of staying at the castillo hotel i read mixed storys over the web of it being in a dangerous area, anyone can help with answering? i also called the dunn in and they told me they charge a chica fee of $11 . i will buy my membership to crt in a week. will that help?
and if you can help with telling me how much is the cab fare around san jose?

Welcome to the board Newb!!

Castillo hotel is just as safe as any in the heart of downtown San Jose, use your good sense and you should be trouble free. As for the Dunn Inn and the $11 chica fee, that will be waived with a valid CRT/Vip membership card. Also cabfare from airport to you hotel should cost you no more than $20 US so don't get jerked around on your journey!! Hope this helps, enjoy.

The general concensus will be it is a good place to stay and it is less expensive then some of the other places. You'll be fine there.

I've stayed at the Castillo many times. It is my hotel of choice. As far as safety goes... SJO and CR, in general, is NOT a gated community. One could be shot, stabbed, robbed or assaulted just about anywhere. That's what makes the adventure so damn much fun!

Welcome. Castillo will be a great hotel for your first trip. You might find yourself staying nowhere else after your stay. Marta, Darren, Danny, Maria are all some of the finest staff that you will come in contact with in CR. Have a good trip.

Best to check with the hotel but it is my understanding that each person that brings back a chica must pay a fee unless he has a CRT card.
