formerly Tentaciones and several other names that failed..... I have often thought that this is the one strip club in Town that has no reason to fail. They have the perfect location near the DR. The last owners also did a good job fixing up the place. It has been closed in it's present ownership for a few years. I wakled by yesterday and they now have papers stuck on the door that say it has been closed down by the Board of Health or some other agency. It's too bad because with the proper ownership and good chicas this would be a great alternative for mongering.

I have been only once many years ago, but I heard by many this place was a big time clip joint. Someone told me it was worse then Hollywood, that was enough for me to never go again. You are right, its in a great location and could cater to both gringos and ticos. It comes down to ownership and how the place is run. Like you said proper ownership and chicas would be a win win for everyone. Nice post.

That prolly holds true for most strip clubs in CR. You make a good point though VB, I for one would go to Stip clubs in SJ if they were decent.

Not a huge fan of MP's but I'm down with the clubs. Idea: VB buy and start a strip club; you know how we like it :wink:

Okay, here is some hearsay that I believe. There were some gringos in town who wanted to buy a strip joint or bar, or both, and someone I know got in contact with the guy who owned Centerfolds and arranged to show the property. The prospective buyers and the 'agent' were stunned to see that the current owner had totally ripped out all of the furnishings, bar, etc, and all that was there was the shell of the building. Rumor has it that he (the owner) was thinking of opening a shop to sell sex toys or some such thing.

I'll be very surprised if it ever opens again as a bar/nightclub.

Bilko...That's too bad because I really think that if someone opened "the RIGHT stripclub it would be a very popular place for Gringos and Ticos. "The Right" place means good chicas,reasonable prices, opening at 2 pm instead of ONLY late at night, and a fun attitude.

I don't think it is actually possible to get it totally 'right' down here. You can't attract top talent and expect those girls to do hour sessions for $40 (or less). The cheapest strip club I know of, Arcadas, has borderline talent. Bar Monaco has better talent but their pricing system is unpredictable and the place is often dead. Pantera Rosa is a decent option but for your $40 you get 20 minutes and the girls will happily drink tiny glasses of 8$ fruit juice and sit on your lap. You can decline, of course. Le Grillion is another option that almost has it right except the private facilities are limited and the chick drinks are (as usual) high priced (big surprise there). I like Alcazar too, but the same situation applies... Not economical for full service or buying drinks for the chicas.

The places mentioned above have been going concerns for a fair amount of time so they 'have it right' as far as staying in business, at least. If you want to watch dancers, pick out a hot one, flirt with her and bang her, it'll cost you, maybe more than a Del Rey prima dona (unless you happen to hit a good night at Monaco or Arcadas, and there's actually a hot girl there).

There are many obstacles to gringos owning such an establishment. And even mroe to being able to make any kind of money at it. A gringo would have to be very well connected, and he would have to grease an awful lot of palms to get the proper permits and avoid constant shakedowns. This money has to come from the profits, so you have to make enough to pay all those things.

Second, If you want good talent, they have to make more money than they could make elsewhere.

Third, Since you have to jump through hoops to avoid "pimping" laws, you can really only make your money selling overpriced drinks, and possibly overpriced rooms.

Plus, a good location means higher rent. Good ambiance means expensive furniture.

I know people don't like feeling like they're getting "ripped off" for drinks, but consider that you'd be paying that money in one way or another regardless of how things are setup. You'll either pay it to the girl, pay it for the room, or pay it for the drinks (and maybe all 3).
