Chatting a Girl up, Big Ego and The 2 Year Gap?

So, some background info, I'm a guy, 17(Going on 18), I m back at University from the Christmas Break, since the new semester began I ve met a lot more people, including this one girl, who is absolutely stunning, being in a group of lads the usual thing started (a competition first one to 'pull' her, everyone put ten quid in) So in my attempts to 'pull' her I ve gotten t know more about her and have fallen for her, We both get on great but the thing is she's 19 and I'm only 17! I ve tried talking it over with the lads but the just mock me. I was talking to my cousin who said "age doesn't matter" that its "just a number"! I ve had a few girlfriends before but I ve always been the older one. Not really sure what to do now. I ve known people to date with a gap of up to 6 years! but its not common where I'm from to be the younger than the girl. I consider myself quite mature, but do occasionally mess around like any guy my age and I'm frequently called arrogant! Admittedly I do have an ego, [I'm the team captain for both soccer and hockey teams! ]The next issue is I ve never been one to actually chat a girl up so to speak, usually, it would be a "do you like her?"-"Ya"-"I'll set you up!" situation,...
