was just wondering...what does everyone wear when they give massages? scrubs? regular clothes with aprons? something different?  I wear scrubs, but sometimes i get sick of them..

Hi there,We wore scrubs in school and I found them to be very comfortable.  I'm one of two MT's in my shop, plus we have a nail tech.  We all dress casual, but not tacky or sloppy!  We would never wear shorts although it sounds nice, that's just a bit too comfy for business.  I think it all depends on what kind of atmosphere you are working in and how you want to present yourself to your clients.  Most of all you want to be comfortable.  Lot's of luck!Susie ;D

Better to wear modest shorts than pass out on your client, huh?   I'm thinking SDBliss, it gets pretty hot where you live.      I usually wear a shirt and Dockers-like pants and socks.  However, it's been unusually hot here and we don't have air conditioning.  All three women and the one man are currently wearing shorts. How comfortable, and we can move better!

At the office we wear scrubs.  We had a therapist wearing some...questionable outfits, so the doctor put us all in scrubs and white tennis shoes.  I like not having to decide what to wear, and I have to say we look pretty professional.When I do chair massage or see clients in their homes, I split the difference between shorts and pants and do khaki capris and a nice t-shirt.    SDBliss and I aren't very far from eachother, and right now it's quite warm!  If I didn't mind my thighs so much, I'd go with shorts too.Katykangaroo

I wear khaki type pants and polo shirts for all my work.  I wore some dressier shorts in school but won't wear them in my own office.  Just my preference.  I live in the high desert and often see temps in the 90s and up but the office is climate controlled so it feels the same whether its -10 or 95.

ok so the place i work its really kick back but i take atvaneforum.xxxe (because i can). i wear my street clothes w an apron but most of the time jeans and a work logo shirt. no shorts ever. some people wear scrubs. also yoga pants and other similar pants or capris with a plain or work shirt.

I split it up between scrubs (different color scrub top with different color scrub pants adds a little diversity too) and regular white dockers with a short-sleeved plain v-neck or scoop-neck blouse.I always wear my (nice) tennis shoes that don't have any stains and aren't worn too much for comfort.I try to stay away from any jewelry except for small earring studs and my hair is always up. This is what I've chosen since I started my massage business and I've worked for myself, for another massage business, and as a consultant with no complaints from any.If you're  unsure, remember the 3 n's (neat, nice, and noteable). hope this helps,Jen

     As for clothing to wear, I just dress "normal".  To me, that means being comfortable and "acceptable" to the general public.  I don't wear any apron.  However, it is CRITICAL to not wear anything that may be sexually arousing, such as transparent clothing, plastic, vinyl, PVC, and the like.  Even though I'm a man, I also wear a "normal" shirt and not leave my chest exposed (unless I am working on a well-known friend and particularly in a very warm environment).  However, it is still possible that even with "normal" clothing, you may have an isolated case of a client becoming sexually aroused in spite of your best intentions, particularly if he or she is severely starved for touch.From John Nozum

My uniform of choice is to wear a black sleevless top with black linen trousers and to work barefoot. Sometimes if I am doing a treatment such as Hopi Ear Candles or Indian Head Massage I may change the shirt for a nice black t-shirt.Foz xxx)

As a fairly new member of the board I'm just now getting to some of these older threads.  I am also in my own practice which allows me to wear what I enjoy wearing.  I like being comfortable when I work which means relaxed fit clothes that move when I do.  I've recently been purchasing more active wear type of clothes (Nike, Russell Atheltic, Wilson) because they are built with the idea of freedom of movement and moisture wicking (those who sweat a lot might appreciate the wicking technology).  It gets pretty warm here in Georgia which leads me to wear skorts and capri type pants with short sleeved shirts.  During the colder months I like the Sport Knit pants from Lands End and generally continue to wear short sleeved shirts with some type of sweater or jacket to toss on between sessions.  On Friday's I wear jeans.I know this is my own opinion, however, scrubs remind me of hospitals and doctors offices which is something I don't wish to bring to my practice.  While I agree there is a unified look about them I personally don't find them professional looking.I prefer to work barefoot.

My turn!Sometimes scrubs- I like a flowery top with co-ordinatind pants and I determined never to by pale scrub pants since my undergarments aren't always white! With usual clients- nice jeans and nice shoes.It's a relaxed setting and I am the only MT, so I don't have to try to stay along the same lines as someone else.The only jewelry I were is a silver moonstone pendant and sometimes I will take it off if the client looks really weary of new-age stuff.  With scrubs I do very nice and neat sneakers (New Balance is my pal!!)With jeans, either nice sneakers or nice casual lace up shoes.I am looking into getting the active were pants, maybe the tops.  Problem is many aren't long enough for my legs.  I haven't looked at the expense ones yet, I bet they have different lengths.Oh- I would really like to wear an apron but my client would tease me since I waitress at Pizza Hut 1 night a week.  Take care all!

For Swedish I wear black conservative shorts and a loose but professional looking white top. I bought 6 pairs of thes shorts on sale (3 for $10) for the short time I worked in a spa. Keep in mind that I live on a tropical island and shorts are very acceptable.

For Ashiatsu I wear the same shorts (or leggings) with a Chinese top, as I have in the picture on my website:

From the store I go to Work-n-gear.  They are in a few states.  They allow a discount for hospital employees.

Get them embroidered and you can deduct them.

i wear sporty workout sort of clothes.  generally, loose fitting black drawstring pants and a nice t-shirt.  i like to work barefoot too.
