hI Fiaz, and welcome.
I have been working in comp therapies for 10 years, and now work anything from 14-24 hours per week.
I have chosen to work part-time to fit in with school hours, but I do go out again in the evening sometimes when needed, and also work occassionally on the weekend to supplement my wage and my requests.
I can honestly say that it is a struggle, I have tried all sorts of marketing, and gave a lot of free talks and demos to anyone who asked me, eg WI and MU. (and got no business from any of it). But I got my name known and for all the right reasons I may add.
It is difficult to get regular work and regular clients. What I do say to them is that they always return to me regardless of the break between appointments as some say they are embarrassed to ring it has been so long between appointments.
I must also say, that a third to sometimes half of my working hours are given up to giving paid talks, demos, and short interest to accreditted courses. My colleagues complain sometimes that they have little income, but they rely on therapy sessions only.
I have got many therapies under my belt and I help to organise training in my area for fellow therapists, and I also do pamper parties.
My secret to my 'success' is to diversify, constantly change to suit the 'fickle' market, and I have had to learn the biggest lesson which is not to take slow business personally.
Hope that helps.
