A Eugene woman with Lyme disease has filed a $282,000 lawsuit in Lane County Circuit Court against a masseuse who she claims made her condition worse by pulling on her leg.

Barbara Waske filed the suit against Daniell Rubio, also known as Ananda Rubio, a licensed massage therapist at Radiant Health Center, as well as Kaya Elizabeth Skye, a practitioner at the Friendly Street business in Eugene that provides massage, acupuncture, herbal medicine and other health services.

Waske claims she sought a massage for relaxation therapy due to substantial stiffness and soreness of her muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and connective tissues throughout her body as a result of Lyme Disease and a recent stem cell injection treatment for the disease.

According to the lawsuit, Waske asked Rubio not to touch her hips or lower back because those areas were extremely sensitive from her disease, treatment and congenital hip displasia.

Waske claims Rubio assured her he would honor her request, the lawsuit shows, but during the massage “suddenly and without warning strong-armed (Waske’s) right ankle and forcibly yanked it and the hip joint.”

As a result, Waske alleges, she suffered a torn or displaced labrum of the right hip — the cartilage that lines the ball and socket — as well as several sprains and strains in her muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and connective tissues. She also said she suffers from groin and lower back pain and numbness.

According to the lawsuit, Waske says the damage caused is permanent and interferes with her ability to carry on her regular activities.

Messages left for Rubio and Skye were not immediately returned.
