facial makeup remover as prep for treatment - what do you use?

As I am a bloke, wanted to ask the ladies out there:
Does anyone use baby wet wipes as a facial make-up remover - whether in general or as a tretment prep?



Would Lavender hydrolat (floral water) and cotton wool be a good cleanser?
I hear that some holistic therapists use extra virgin olive oil for this.


In terms of cost, Dermalogica and even Botanics are out of my range, however,
Asda Baby fragrance free wet wipes are PARABEN & SLS FREE and cost 50p for 80…

What sort of therapy are you offering? I usually ask clients not to apply makeup if they are coming to me for facial treatment.

I generally keep a pack of make-up remover wipes in the clinic - made by Simple - not expensive.

I usually ask for the client to not wear any make up too. But if by any chance they are wearing some, I get them to use rose water on cotton wool pads, I am not a beauty therapist, so I don't have cleansers etc

The Rose water really appeals to me - in beauty terms it is considered a Toner - not sure what the difference is in actual terms?
I usually offer Shiatsu acupressure on the face, with no need to remove the make up, but would like to be able to offer a full Aroma facial, including oils such as Evening Primrose or Jojoba etc with gentle EOs

I'm not a beauty therapist either - my tutor when I trained said it would be ok to have cleanser available. At the moment I carry Simple cleanser and cotton wool pads, but they also do wipes. The only thing is that if you don't use them very often they dry out in the packet.

I tried to use baby wet wipes in the past but I was not that impressed. All baby wipes I found at that time, about 2 years ago, had parabens in them and wore full of chemicals I really did not wanted to put on my skin.

I only clean my face with natural vegetable oils like extra virgin olive oil for example, and tone with lavender water or rose water. Instead of cotton wool I make use of a muslin cloth, good to exfoliate too last for months.
Search the Oil Cleansing Method on google, is a DIY popular method.

Lavender floral water makes a great mild cleanser for sensitive skin!

This is what i have found too, though i use sweet almond oil to cleanse.....but i've used various oils and found many good. I tried many commercial cleansers and wipes over the years and so far nothing has removed my eye makeup as effectively as sweet almond oil (not tried olive oil but i know many people like it too).

I would not recommend using wet wipes, I'd not be impressed if a therapist used them on me.

I use base oil to pre-cleanse before an aroma facial. Oil attracts oil and it's very effective in removing make-up, it's also the best holistic option that is cost effective.

If you or your clients would prefer and cream cleanser I'd recommend Vit E cleanser from asda and tesco. It's under a pound and suits my sensitive skin.

The rose, lavender and orange hydrolates (water) are toners and would be best used after the treatment. Being slightly astringent they close the pores and tighten the skin, not ideal to cleanse with.

As for dermalogica, their wide range of cleansers are highly expensive and do not work well on their own. If I use a different toner and moisturiser my skin feels very dry. Dermalogica is high end market brand known for the face mapping of a full treatment, it would be a waste just to use their cleanser.

One last question, would you also consider the natural ESENCE of rose / orange water (5%) - that asda and tesco sell for a pound (200ml) - I have been using them as dispersers for facial spray and air fresheners so far?

I'd not recommend them as they are produced for cooking and flavour rather than the therapeutic properties that the professional hydrolates contain.

Its the same as using cooking oils for massage instead of base oils - not ideal, but ok to use.

I use pampers sensitive aloe & chamomile wipes as face cleansers on myself, with a proprietary eye makeup remover on cotton pads as the eye skin needs a softer approach (body shop camomile is the best). I also use rose water to take off any residue. For my clients (I'm a massage therapist not a beautician) I use these wipes for convenience, to wipe off finger-applied cleanser before doing face-massage - I use a very good spa-range based on dead sea minerals. The baby wipes are nice as they are a convenient size, and slightly exfoliating like the muslin cloth and the sensitive ones don't have nasties in them as far as I can see. The 'wipe' seems to be mainly glycerine and castor oil so is good at removing foundation. Almond oil alone is a little heavy and I find it can clog pores.
