Wondered if anyone that gets out of the gulch had any info or comments on these SJO bars, & clubs. From what I see- a mix of dance clubs, college bars, upper class bars and restaurants, some with live music. Definitely some hot locals at these places and see an occasional working chica amongst the pics. Ive been to Friends, Ebony 56 & Twister, heard Handy talk about Vertigo and Touch, and the Jazz Cafe has been talked about on the board. Many of these may be located in El Pueblo...?

You can try Terra U(San Pedro) for sure, you are going to see some times some working girls in there or if you want a High Class Club you can go to Utopia in Santa Ana.

I have lots of time on my hands and I live here, and I have been to the shortened list above.

Terra U is loud loud loud and full of middle class (and above) student-types. It is usually jammed. If you just want to ogle student types, go. If you are looking for company, you better be under 30.

El Sultan is another student hangout for a different school. Inexpensive beer and good Lebanese food. Not usually as crowded or loud as Terra U, but can be very crowded depending on timing. It was a good happy hour place for me when I lived close by, but I seldom stayed late on weekends, when it is taken over by the 'now' generation. Once again, if you are under 30 perhaps you COULD get lucky, but the women are mostly middle class and aren't that much different from their gringa equivalent.

El Yos is usually quite crowded and once again a place for the younger set. Not my cup of tea but seems to be packed with young, affluent ticos and ticas.

Jazz Cafe is a very nice place, good music (in my ears) and a place I have been meaning to revisit. Others can probably say more about it than I can.

Virus is a place I like quite a bit. I like the music they play (classic rock, mostly) and it's got a nice dance area upstairs with a crowd of 20s through 50s, perhaps. I had relatively attractive women ask me to dance a time or 2. I like the food there and it's not as expensive as the gulch.
