CRYSTAL LAKE — The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to 1500 Carlemont Dr. in Crystal Lake due to a call from a neighboring tenant Saturday morning, according to a news release from the department.
First units arrived on the scene at Aleda Spa around 4 a.m. Saturday and found that no one was in the building. Upon further investigation, crews identified heat and smoke coming from the structure. Additional units from Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, McHenry Township Fire Protection District and Huntley Fire Protection District assisted in deploying a hose in the rear of the building to extinguish the fire.
According to the news release, the estimated damage is less than $100,000. The damage is also limited to Aleda Spa. No residents or firefighters were injured, and the origin of the flames is still under investigation.
In 2013, the Northwest Herald reported that the spa was involved in a prostitution bust, along with several other massage therapy businesses in Crystal Lake. Additional charges and arrests were expected to be made regarding other city ordinances the businesses violated, including building code violations.
