Fleece pads, they get old??

About 4 years ago I bought a fleece pad from ebay. In the begining it didnt get a lot of use since I was still in school.

I wash it about once a month. The elastic is a bit stretched, but the pad stays on the table. I never thought there was much wrong with it until....

I bought a new one in anticipation of getting a second table when I move. The new one looks A LOT different than the old one. The new one makes the old one look... well... old.

The new one is very fuzzy and the pile is high. The old one is not looking so fuzzy, more matted. Thing is, I dont remember it getting like this! It happen so gradually, that it always looked about the same to me.

I am going to have to get another fleece pad!! The thing that irks me the most is, I almost bought two, I thought it would be good to have a back up. I will be buying another one and using my old one as a back up now I guess.

Has anyone else noticed this about thier fleece pad? Or were you like me and didnt notice it wasnt what it used to be?

oooh, I didnt notice my old, sad fleece pad til I read this post! lol I need a new one ASAP! I saw one that fits over the whole table, like a flat sheet...wonder if theyre any better? The one I have now just has elastic bands on all sides!

There is a guy on ebay who sells them for $20, but they are the regular kind with elastic on the corners.

I thought about the wrap around one, but it is about $60, and if it is only going to last a year and a half to two years.... I would just rather have the one with elastic straps.

I am giving my old one to my parents for their doggies. It is good enough for them yet.

When I replaced my fleece pad, I bought the earthlite deluxe (fits over the whole table). Prior to that I had one with the elastic bands. I definitely like the new one better. First of all, it's thicker (and not just because it's new! . Fleece comes in varying levels of thickness & the deluxe is twice as thick as standard. Also, having the cushion around the sides, means there's always a cushion between the client & the table, even when their arms are draped off the sides or front of the table. Since I have a portable table, one side has little rubber "feet", the other side has handles, and the top & bottom of the table have clasps. My sheets always covered these parts of the table, but you could feel them through the sheet. The new full-cover fleece pad covers these completely -- can't see them, can't feel them. To me, it was worth a little extra money. Also the earthlite deluxe pad is sold as a set that comes with a fleece face-cradle cover. It makes the face cradle SO much more comfortable, and removes those lines you mentioned in another thread! The set costs $50.

Blisss, that is more reasonable than the one on MW. If I had seen that one, I may have given it more thought. The wrap around one on ebay doesnt have the face cradle fleece cover either.

i ditched my fleece and purchased a memory foam mattress pad. it's seriously the greatest thing ever. i do wonder how long it will last though. i noticed when i took my fleece off it did look a little squished down. do you guys have a cover over the fleece besides the fitted sheet?

my table is layered like this: fleece pad, table warmer, fitted flannel sheet, and flat sheet. I use 2 flat sheets for my table, I hate changing a fitted sheet after every massage! The fitted flannel helps keep the fleece in place. I like the idea of the memory foam, though. I LOVE those things! So maybe its time to splurge.....Im sure my clients will appreciate it, too! Thanks for the great idea!

My fleece is looking a little old too. After the washings and people laying on it, that is understandable. I am not ready to trade the old thing in just yet though. I think she still has some mileage. But, you guys sure have made the new ones sound inviting!

The memory foam does sound heavenly....but I would have concerns about not being able to wash it. Even having a sheet over that before your regular session sheets, sweat and oils and things are bound to seep down. Of course, if you have the table warmer on top, I can't imagine it would get through that. I have my table warmer beneath the fleece. Otherwise, you could feel the coils of the warmer. And, I just felt that there wouldn't be as much between the client and the warmer, requiring more washing. For me i think it's easier to wash the fleece.

Kneaded, the more expencive memory foam pads have a layer of vinyl on top for easy cleaning. But one of the reasons I wanted the fleece was to get away from clients laying directly on heating pad coils OR a sheet directly over vinyl.

I too have my heating pad under my fleece.

How often do you wash your fleece pad?
