ASHEBORO — Keri Beck Garner is a great believer in the therapeutic value of massage.

At the tender age of 3, she began suffering from migraines and eventually found relief in massage.

So when it came time for her to start her own business, choosing a name was easy — Euphoria Therapeutic Massage.

“ ‘Euphoria’ actually means ‘state of happiness and well being,’ and that’s what I want for my clients,” she said, adding that she wants to get the message out to the community that massages can actually serve as therapy, too. “It’s not just about pampering, it’s about therapy and helping you. That’s why I chose Euphoria Therapeutic.”

The new business, which opened Sept. 1, is located at 161 N.C. 42, Suite C, Asheboro. Previously, she rented space nearby, at Dr. McCall Sink-Tanner’s Blase Chiropractic.

“This place was for rent. Everything just kind of fell into place. So I decided to take the leap of faith and go big,” she added, with Sink-Tanner’s encouragement. “I wanted to offer something for our community that was closer and more convenient.”

Before starting Euphoria Therapeutic Massage, Garner completed a massage therapy program at Body Therapy Institute in Siler City.

“The program was almost a year long; it was kind of vigorous but well worth it,” she said.

Garner also serves as an instructor for the Therapeutic Massage Program at Randolph Community College, which she teaches on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6010 p.m.

“It’s at the Randleman Center. Class starts in August and ends in May. … It’s a great program. I’ve got great students,” she said.

In class, she teaches all the “hands-on stuff,” from relaxation and full body massages, to deep tissue massages, and also instructs students on how to do chair massages.

At her business, she continues that “hands-on” approach by offering Swedish massages, myofascial/deep tissue massages, Thai massages, reflexology and more. She does not charge any extra fees for add-ons such as deep tissue massages or prenatal massages.

According to her website, the benefits of massage are numerous:

It is also a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness, reduce tension and tension headaches, reduce edema, promote a better night’s sleep, and improve blood and lymph circulation.”

Sessions are by appointment only.

“I am here as early as 8 a.m. and the last appointment ‘til about 6:30 p.m,” she said.

Garner said she has had a strong support from surrounding businesses throughout her process of opening her own.

“I know the ladies, next door at Divine Designs, and they were very helpful and encouraging as well,” she said.

She plans to keep her business located in Asheboro for a long while to come and has aspirations of expanding.

“I just hope to add massage therapists and adding modalities (different types and forms of massage) that nobody offers around here. I hope it keeps growing,” she said.

* Euphoria Therapeutic Massage sessions are by appointment only. Hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturdays, 8 a.m.-noon.
