I can't believe this hasn't been an election issue yet. It's freiken at a ridiculous price now and not too much air time from the media. I was reading that US gas stations are reporting a 3% decrease in business and they are crying about it. In Canada it's the same, some economists are claiming Canadians are cutting elsewhere. If prices remain the same the average driver will spend $1000 more this year.

TIME FOR A REVOLT!!! They can drop the HST off the pump and that would bring the price down substantially.

Whatever party promises to bring energy costs down gets my vote!!

Its not an election issue, because the politico's LOVE the taxes they get from it. And they need that capital, to fund their pie in the sky plans they are promising to the electorate every day.

I'll vote for the politician that says I WILL NOT spend more money on all this shit.

If people are reducing their driving, it's a good thing. I'd like to see it taxed a lot more, then the money could be spent on public transit and other areas to encourage more reductions.

A tax break on bicycles? Money spent on a nice bike lane network?

There used to be a tax break on bikes. No PST (on bikes less that $1000), but our lovely and talented Premier effectively kyboshed that LY when he screwed us all over with HST. :grrrrrr:

GIVE ME A BREAK! Maybe if you live in Toronto it's easy to jump on a bus or ride your tricycle to work but some of us live in the burbs and don't give me the line of move closer to downtown either!

I guess you're voting for the Green Party sheesh!

Maybe we should tax junk food and tax over weight people extra too so we can bring down the cost health care!

Some of us live in the country.
While I always make sure that I have a list of everything I need before I go into town, there is no fucking way that A) I can fix it on a bicycle and B) haul it 12 kms back from the store.

Overweight people don't harm anyone but themselves, but car emissions do.
I don't recommend everyone bike to work, but it makes sense to live closer to your job.

Actually they require more health care which puts the bite on all of us.

As for bike lanes I'm all for them. Taxing bikes should also be minimized to encourage alternate methods of transportation.

High health costs for sure, but then they die earlier - no idea how that balances out.
Probably a much bigger burden than smokers who at least paid their dues.

I say lets all stop buying snacks, drinks or anything sold in gas bars. Let's stop buying gas from Esso and PetroCanada. Let them wilt and die a slow death. I am aware that the oil companies will still be sending the product out to the other companies but at least it will send a very strong message. Unfortunately not driving for most is unrealistic and the oil giants know it.

I would like to see oil removed from the speculators, unfortunately it's easier said than done.

I'd like to see increased exploration and drilling in the western hemisphere. One accident in the gulf and Obama shuts down drilling in the gulf (at least for US companies), while other countries with more lax regulations are drilling all over the gulf! How does this lower fuel prices, help the environment or create jobs?

It's not only about drilling, we need more refineries too. Plus I also agree energy should not be in the hands of the speculators. The higher gas prices are now forcing all industries to raise their prices to compensate for the higher costs of transportation. The last time prices reached this high we had a blip in our economy, I hope it doesn't happen again.

Hopefully these questions will be asked tonight on the Leaders debate.
