WILMINGTON -- A new spa is opening in Mayfaire.

Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, located at 840 Town Center Drive, will begin taking appointments Monday. Launched in 2004, the franchise has locations in 28 states and Canada. The Mayfaire spa is owner Andy Johnson's second location -- his first is in Chapel Hill.

"I wanted a business that valued and respected the people on the team and placed a real strong emphasis on the customer experience," Johnson said. "This business brings benefits to our clients from a wellness standpoint, a health standpoint, it's very rewarding to offer a service people really enjoy."

Services provided in the spa include facials, massages and hair removal.

Johnson said within each one of those categories are different types including Swedish, hot stone, deep tissue massages, customized masks, peels and microdermabrasion.

"It's luxury feel that can appeal to everyone," Johnson said. "Clients come to us with all types of skin care goals and every treatment is going to be unique to your particular need."

Spa manager Brad Hall said clients leave refreshed and educated on skin care tips to add to their home care regimen.

"Exfoliate, moisturize and sun protection is what everyone should try to do an a daily bases," Hall said. "Exfoliation is a process removing dead skin from the top layer to reveal a brighter complexion, moisturizing replenishes the skin after we've worked on it and we all need UV protection."
