I have never seen one like this.

Heck, for $50, I think I might consider it. It looks fully portable and functional. Looks hand-built and like you won't be able to break that puppy anytime soon.

I figure it's in the range of 45 lbs.

These are all questions you should be able to ask the seller: Where did they get it? Did someone make it (not a professional company)? If someone didn't make it, does it have any documentation? How much does it weigh (they can weigh themselves and then pick it up and stand on the scale again, and do the math)?

You might want to check and see if it is a very old Gonstead table fo some sort (google Gonstead tables and search "images"). I don't think so after doing a little brief searching -- but I don't know what all of the types of tables look like that they have built over the years. But, it's a thought, esp. since Parker Chiropractic College is in Dallas.

I am intrigued with the design of this chair. I think I'll show hubby, just for kicks. We'd *like* another (meaning, a second) chair, but I'm not sure that would fit our current need/situation, unique as it is.

I googled Gonstead a few different ways, and didn't see anything like that there. I think this one was designed specifically for massage. I wonder if ABMP covers the use of "non-modern equipment"? LOL!

Yes, I have! :grin: My first job at the wellness center in NY had another LMT who had graduated (from my same school down in NYC no less) back in the early 90's I think. Her chair looked exactly like that! I believe she said that it was not hand made but actually just an early model of mx chair. It didn't seem all that much heavier than than modern chairs and had little casters to roll on when getting to locations.

Obviously it doesn't have much in the way of adjustments but surprisingly most people were perfectly comfortable in it! And very little creaking, if any. It would get a lot of stares when we did events; kinda like taking a Model-T to a new car lot

That's cool, Akasha! Dh said he thinks it's like the "old original" that one of our instructors (used to?) have, and he sat on it and found it most UN-comfortable, so he was not interested at all in buying it.

The therapist who owns the building where I rent has one like it. I agree with your DH.. crappy old thing for sure.

I have one similar to that. It is being stored at my mom's house. I might have to go get it and take a picture for ya!

A friend found it at a yard sale and she used it at the beginning of doing massage. Then I needed something for a gig and used it. It really isn't the ideal chair but it worked. lol

Not sure why I keep it. I sort of figured one day I might have a larger office space and can set it out as a conversation piece.

Last week, I learned of another MT that still has a massage chair like that one. She does so little chair massage that she's never felt the need to update. She has loaned it out now and then, and those MTs who borrow it quickly go purchase something else.
