heating pads

I'm wanting to buy a heating pad that I can lay on a person's back after I'm finished in that area.  I've seen the ones that you microwave and also ones that plug in and would like some feedback/reviews as to what you all use?  I would think the ones with beans or corn hulls of some kind would slosh since I have an eye pillow that does that.  I've seen heating pads that you plug in with some kind of sponge that you wet and it keeps it moist heat.  Ah, and the Thermophore heating bad...moist heat with no sponge???  I would like it to be flexible and comfortable on their back.  I have an older heating pad that I don't use, and it's pretty stiff.  I'd also like it to heat up fast and do any of you  find the cord to be  combersome?  I have an outlet right next to the table but....  Ok, let me know.  Thanks!!!

I use a thermaphore and everybody seems to like it.  They give off a lot of heat and have a nice weight to them.  I use it to warm up my table and my cream before a massage.  The thermophore has a trigger on it so I either have used a hairtie or a piece of tape to fix it on, but because the heat can be so intense I only use it on top of a sheet and a towel or a blanket and I always tell the client to let me know if it's too hot.  I usually move the heating pad around during my massage.  Another idea is to get a full size table warmer which,especially if you live in a cold winter climate, your clients will love.  Unfortunately I can't at this time recommend a brand, I have recently had some bad luck with the last two I've gotten from Massage Warehouse and am looking for a different brand than what they offer.Good luck and I'm sure you'llget lots of great info.I'm new to it,but this is a great forum.

Thanks for the review. آ Does the Thermophore have adjustable heat?  I do have a table warmer matress pad that I bought from Walmart. آ One of my teachers said she got a table warmer from Massage Warehouse and it broke so she got another one as a gift and it broke also. آ She said she ended up getting a twin size pad at Walmart and it's worked great for years. آ I love mine. آ Oh ya, if you are going to get one then do it now since it's a seasonal thing. آ I went in at this time last year and the sales people said they didn't have any in stock so I had to order it online. آ

I have a Thermaphore that I got at Massage Warehouse; works great as a heating pad, and I use it to warm towels. I fold them inside, let the thing warm up, then roll them for neck supports, or use themn to buff oil off an area. When I use the Thermaphore in treatment, I typically unplug it, lay it on the client on top of the drape and let it cool. That way the client isn't getting burned. I haven't used it for longer periods, moving it around etc, but will need to try that out soon.I also got a table warmer from MW. That has been a life saver. My space is a bit drafty, so I was getting a lot of complaints about people getting chills, even with an extra blanket. Since I got the warmer, I have been able to eliminate the blanket (which was a real nuisance to work around), and have gotten raves from everyone!   I've heard that the table warmers can be purchased at Target for less than MW, but was unable to find any when I looked.

I find a heating pad with cord a terrible nuisance.  I tried a Fomentek huge hot water bottle but it rolls around and falls off when placed on the back.  What I really love and use all the time is the Therabeads microwaveable pad in the XL size for the back.  They are available from BML.  I roll it up, nuke it for 3 minutes and lay in on top of a clean towel on the back while I work the legs and glutes and then the back is nice and warm when I start the back work.  I've had this product for 5 years and have not worn it out yet.  On icy cold days I sit on it on my way driving to work.

I was just going to say Therabeads too. I just ordered a king-size (12 x 12) on ebay for alot less than other places I've seen them advertised. Until its delivered (3/18) I am still using my wheat sacks that I make myself. I am just getting tired of the over-cooked smell you can get/have to be leary of... so I'm going to try this other product. My clients who have purchased wheat sacks from me are still pleased with them. they just don't use them as often as I do, etc. They do, eventually, cook out & need to be trashed. I'm hoping the Therabeads is a good investment. BTW, I spent 25-ish on mine, plus shipping.Jill/Sagetherapist

Thermaphores are great but for ease of use I've always liked the larger gel packs.  I have a microwave in the office so it's easy to heat them up, can be used cold too.Ben CrabtreeSan Antonio, Texaswww.massagebyben.com
