It's a hobby that's a habit.

To me a hobby is something that you enjoy doing to occupy your time, it provides a sense of accomplishment, which becomes addictive, so, now it's a habit.

It's a hobby until you start thinking about it all the time. Then start looking for online message boards like this. Then it's a habit.

This is definitely addictive but also a hobby. My reasoning is that this summer I got back into a sport that I haven't played for a while. It took up so much of my free time that I barely went to see any massage therapists all summer. Now that it's cold and I'm bored, I've started going regularly again.

habit and addiction aren't the same thing. it feels you were implying addiction.

addiction has clear signs - loss of control in making clear choices, the "knowing better" choices, and you begin to see impacts on your well being - it begins to interfere with your relationships, work, finances, health, etc. And the one addicted usually thinks they know what is happening and they are in control, but also able to turn it around any time they want - while the cycles get deeper.

With that choice of establishment at least you are putting your hard earned funds to good use, and getting exceptional value in health and well being. One might call it a good habit. Mind you, it's still a good idea to take your Tesla off its autopilot mode. .

It shifts into the bad habit or addiction classifications when
the outflow of funds goes out of control and adds no value to our overall well being.

Interesting discussion. I guess for me this is definite a hobby. something to enjoy. Sometimes for relaxation. Sometimes for therapy. All for wellness. Not really a habit…and for sure not an addiction. But like everything else…this could be a horrible addiction for some peoples!

Hobby for me. Don’t spend more than I (and my insurance company) can afford. Spread the wealth through trial and error. Eat the same pizza, or order from different establishments.
Eat twice-a Week, or once a month.
Either way it’s fun.

Reason I am posting some ideas is to help people think out their own plans. Not giving advice. But promoting independent thinking. Focus on whatever enhances our own lives. Over many decades of living, regardless of which phase of life one is in. Now, dining out on pizza twice a week may put a serious damper on any life enhancing pleasures that any of us might appreciate.

I have been thinking about that a lot recently. After 2 incidents at work and 1 positive test result (no symptom for me but still 14 days); the isolation periods are like detox. It feels great to go for that weekly massage but not having it was okay too. It was definitely feeling like a habit for me and need to rethink things.

PS: What are the incidents at work: 1) some 20thing think it is okay to attend a 400 people party and drank his face off, I was told, news broke through Instagram, about 100 tested positive afterwards, I got tested but was clean; 2) another 20something attended an underground rave, about 50 in a small house, after he showed symptoms, a few of us got tested and I was positive too; still isolating at home. On a positive note, vaccine seems to be working, I am positive but zero symptoms. Notifying everyone (including one RMT and a bunch of customers) I had contacted after the positive test was awkward.

So you are stuck at home, sheepishly informing close contacts, all because some 20something ass hat couldn’t see beyond his own nose?

For me it’s for sure a hobby. I started out just getting proper athletic massage from RMTs, nothing sexy at all. Went to one one who surprised me by offering the h.e. and found I quite liked it.

I’ve always been lucky in that for whatever reason I have not had to pay for it when I’m in the mood for affection, but there’s a different kind of fun being with a pro whether it’s f.s. Or just a massage with extras.

So for me it’s maybe once every month or two: Definetely not a habit. I see Michelle at number one Spa a fair bit: she dresses well, has a great touch, and we have a good rapport. Mostly though I like to explore and try out new people/spots. Still trying to find that elusive holy grail of a young, slim masseuse who dresses cute, can direct bill and provide a pleasurable service. Edmonton isn’t exactly the promised land for that but whenever I’m in Eastern Europe on business… Holy hell! I could see the hobby turning into a habit.

Yes it is an interesting discussion. I suppose a person could consider myself being in the hobby? category? If once every 2-3 months would be considered a hobby? Not sure where the hobby to habit to addiction lines are. Something I enjoy every so often and with "same" therapist. Someone who I connect with and enjoy their company. Now I like to refer to it as a pleasurable outing. It's like I still go out on a few dates, just not 6 nights a week with 5 different ladies. Have to treat yourself every once in a while. Right? As they say everything in moderation. Some would go...wow is that all? When I was younger , oh yes much more frequency. Than one day I realized my frequency was going beyond a pleasurable outing and into a habit, addiction? I started to cut down on my frequency and slowly weaned myself back. That took a little bit of time and will power. The effort it took to do that made me realize that it was beyond a hobby for me. It wasn't about the money. No, it was about the hunt, the chase, the adrenaline rush. Maybe as we turn older that dissipates. Or the super high cost of fuel. LOL! But for others maybe not. Who's to judge? To each their own, but probably a good idea to take a pause every so often if you feel you are over doing it. This "hobby" can easily lead to "habit", and without question have the possibility of turning into an "addiction". Looking back I was definitely teetering on the brink of addiction. In no way am I trying to tell anyone how to conduct their affairs. I just find this topic to be of interesting subject matter and thought to add my personal experience. Merry Christmas to all!

I do believe it was more of an addiction than a habit due to me feeling that urge. Problem is my occasional visits are somewhat stressful as I just can't decide who to see, an old regular or something new. Problem with something new is that there is no guarantee of that happy finish .

At the start of the insurance calendar year. I tend to ease into it so as not to blow all my insurance coverage in the first 3-4 months. Then I find I have been too lax and have a bunch to use up at the end of the year. Not wanting to waist any “free” money. (Scheduling is not one of my strong suits)
What also hurts is that as much as I want to stick mostly with the tried and true provider that I know will give me a great session, I also want to go see those that are getting great reviews, with no guarantee of fun. Fluctuating hobby?
My first world problems.

Miss V taught me that trying to combine a serious session of therapy and a session of exchanging mutual pleasures into one session was not feasible. Asian Angela was the same. But they were both unique in their ability to deliver on either services at the highest levels. In spending my hard earned dollars in a meaningful way, I try to home in on the idea of a controlled hobby. Regardless of which type of service, I seek, I want to feel good about it in the days that follow. That is my measure and check so that I am not just out there blowing funds. The budgets are clearly up to individuals and their personal situations. As hobbyists, it is not such a bad thing to sometimes be discussing such subjects, not just the size of a provider's nipples.
