How to introduce a new kitten to a dog for the first time?

We rescued 2 new kittens to today after loosing a 17 year old loved cat a couple of weeks ago. We also have a 2 year old Cockapoo who still acts very much like a puppy--hyper and crazy. He's really a sweet boy, but he tends to get very excited and jump, which will definitely scare the kittens. We have kept the two 10 week old kittens in one room since we got them (a few hours ago) but our dog has been scratching and barking and whining at the door since. We will obviously eventually have to introduce them, but were thinking that we will wait til tomorrow so that the cats can get used to their new home. We also saw that one of them had some loose stool and don't want to overwhelm/stress them out. Is that a good idea? We are afraid that the dog will build up resentment to the cats because we are often in the room with them and he's not allowed to be. Do you think this will happen?
So basically I'm trying to ask:
1. When should we introduce them? (today or wait)
2. Will my dog get angry at us and maybe even try to hurt the kittens for taking up our time and attention?
3. How should we introduce them?

you should try and introduce the cats to the dog early, the younger the better. older cats are generally difficult to socialize with ANY other animals. but as kits,they are more friendly and playful. i would hold up the kits, one at a time, a little above the dogs head level, and let him sniff them. then, awhile after that, when the dogs just sitting around, set the kit down around the dog, and slowly let them stay around the dog for longer and longer periods, eventually just letting them be run around in the house with the dog however they want.

In my experience, I put the new animal in a cage for about a half hour and let the animal that was already there come up and meet them. With the new animal in the cage it lets the old animal feel like they are in control and that they accepted them on their own terms. After the half hour go up and praise the old animal and let the new animal(s) out and sit there petting the old animal as they are introduced. Alot of the problem with the new animal is the old animal thinks that you are replacing him/her with the new animal so at first give the old animal extra love and attention. That will make them more accepting of the "new kid on the block".

Keep the dog and cats on opposite sides of a door, at all times, for at least two weeks. Let them sniff each other from under the door. Ignore any barking, whining, hissing, etc.

Switch them around. Sometimes keep the kitties in the bedroom and the dog in the rest of the house, then the dog in the bedroom for awhile and the cats in the rest of the house, for example. In this way, they will get to know each other by scent, and the cats will learn their way around your home, too.

Get the cats to a vet to make sure they don't have anything contagious, like ringworm, that you and the dog could get. Start their vaccinations.

Your dog could possibly have some issues with the cats, depending upon YOUR behavior.

After 2 to 3 weeks of switching them back and forth, let the dog outside in the yard and let the cats out of the room they are currently in. When the dog comes back in, the cats will be there. What happens next, I don't know. I never lost a cat this way or even had one harmed but all of my dogs were well trained and tractable. I can't say what your dog will do but at least the cats will have learned their way around the house and can find escape routes if needed. Be sure they have a place to get away TO.

You can avoid all the trouble by placing the cats in a rescue or another home, now.
