Immigration Check at La Mansion

I was at La Mansion today around 11:45 when Immigration came to check out everyone's papers. I has just paid my 12000 and waiting for my chica to come back. When immigration came in and asked for my passport he checked all the girls papers and wrote down my passport number. They called in my passport too, when everything cleared. He said to me you could go back. But my chica ran away and with my money too. Are these immigration checks common? I hate to be on a monger database. You never know when something might come back to haunt you.

They were probably looking for illegal hookers more than mongers. If they found out you had overstayed your visa or something, then they would have cleaned you out with a bribe. But I have heard of immigration blitzes occurring in many "red light" type areas of San Jose over the past 5 years. But most of the time they are just looking for the Nicas as most Ticos are racist beyond repair. Just bounce outta the country every 90 days and you'll be all good. As for a database, I doubt that such a thing exists as it would just take too much effort for them to keep up with. The cops are lazier than I am here, unless $$$ is involved.

Unless the chica you had given the money to was new, like first day, I am not sure who it would have been. The past few weeks there has only been 3 non Ticas there; one Colombiana who has legal papers and has been here for years, one Panamanian who also has good papers and has lived here most of her life, and one Nica who left last week to return to Nicaragua for a couple of months.

And, yes, immigration has been, it seems, checking the MPs a little more lately. As has been stated many times here, you should ALWAYS carry either your passport orprefavorable a copy with a copy of the entry stamp. They would call it in solely to check the validity of the data, not to put you on some non-existant list of "mongers"

As for a database, I doubt that such a thing exists as it would just take too much effort for them to keep up with.

Upon my return from Colombia last month the ICE agent scanned my passport, and I was pulled out of line. He said I had been flagged, put on a list (something like CRT), and I would need to speak to an officer.

The officer came about 15 minutes later and took me to another area of the airport, still out in the open, checked my bags, and asked me some questions. He was very cordial, because I was also. He said that he appreciated my good attitude. Anyway he scanned my passport prior to our chat, and typed a fairly long paragraph. I asked him if that meant that I was going to be put on the good guy list, he smiled and said yes. I should not have future checks. I don't believe this for a second.

IMHO, with the new passports, every time they scan it, a permanent record of where you have been is made.
