A controversial Hartsdale massage parlor may reopen despite having been stripped of it's operating license, a state judge ruled Thursday.
Alan Scheinkman, chief judge for the Ninth Judicial District, ruled that Forest Yin Spa may open for business until Jan. 9 while a dispute between the massage parlor's owners and the town plays out in court.
It's the latest chapter in an ongoing feud between the two sides.
The Greenburgh Town Board voted Dec. 19 to revoke Forest Yin's license under a 2015 local law that authorized the town to regulate massage parlors. Town police raided the business in June and charged one masseuse with prostitution and another with giving massages without a required license.
Peter Tilem, an attorney for the spa, has argued that masseuses are licensed by New York state, and therefore the town doesn't have the authority to regulate licensing.
But Greenburgh officials contend that massage parlors that do not operate within the law, particularly those involved in prostitution, have no place in town. Town police have shuttered seven other massage parlors since the local law was enacted.
In this case, the dispute will continue to play out in court.
