WILMINGTON — There’s an new app that allows you to get “spa treatment” on-demand.
The Zeel Massage app, recently launched in the Port City, advertises itself as “on-demand massage therapy,” bringing licensed therapists to your home, office and pretty much anywhere in between.
Founded in 2012, the company now operates in more than 65 cities nationwide, with over 9,500 therapists across the U.S. They offer a variety of different services including Swedish massages, deep tissue, sports, sleep, prenatal and even couples sessions.
According to Cynthia Irons, Chief Marketing Officer for Zeel, the company initially launched as a health and wellness booking service, recognizing that “most customers and massage therapists wanted more in-home massages, and within 4 hours of booking.
“The spa industry wasn’t set up for that. We took our learnings, created a new category in the massage industry, and relaunched Zeel. We trademarked Massage On Demand and were the first company to bring same-day, in-home massage to customers.”
How it works
Zeel operates by connecting local therapists, who are “licensed, insured, experienced, and vetted in person by the Zeel team,” to customers in need of a massage in their operating area. For the customer, requesting a massage is as simple as downloading the app, or going through the website, to request a session.
From there, you select the gender of your therapist, the time, location and type of massage you would like, and the job is done.

Once your massage is booked, the app will send you a confirmation that shows your therapist’s full name, photo, bio, and license number so you know exactly who’s coming to your door.
Irons said safety is not only a concern for the customer, but the therapists themselves.
“Therapists also need to feel safe,” she said. “We’re the only company in the industry that asks customers to verify their ID and mobile number prior to booking their first massage.”
After that, according to Irons, your therapist will arrive, complete with “everything you need to turn your living room into a spa,” including the massage table, lotion, and music.
A massage can be booked in 60, 75, and 90-minute sessions, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., 365 days a year. In Wilmington, sessions start at $105.02, including tax and an 18 percent gratuity.
Zeel also offers monthly membership services.
“Zeel is the perfect solution for people who are on the go and can’t predict their schedules,” Irons said. “With Zeel, you can get a massage at a time and place that works for you. We bring the spa directly to your doorstep.”
Not your average office party
If you’ve ever wanted to throw an office party that’s a bit out of the ordinary, the service can help with that as well. According to Irons, this is a “very popular” service for Zeel, and can be set up for any size workplace.
Irons said that through the “Zeel Corporate Wellness” program, the company is able to bring massages to companies, events, and workplaces across the country, and has even worked with the likes of Facebook and Pinterest in the past.
“Companies can customize their bookings, the number of massage therapists, length of massage sessions, chair or clothed table massages, and recurrences from one-time to weekly, quarterly, and monthly,” she said.
They’ll also come to you nearly anywhere in their operating area, from hotels to living rooms, even offering services right on the beach.
Services around the Cape Fear will be offered at Wrightsville, Carolina, and Kure beaches, as well as Burgaw, Bayshore, Hampstead, Masonboro, Murrayville, Ogden, and Seagate.
