Massage therapist and educator Tina Allen received the Performance Health Humanitarian of the Year award, presented at the Massage Therapy Foundation's reception at the American Massage Therapy Association's annual national convention in Raleigh, North Carolina, Oct. 5.
Allen is the founder of The Liddle Kidz Foundation, which coordinates trips to bring massage therapists to orphaned children around the world and educates massage therapists in pediatric and infant massage. Performance Health is a manufacturer of several brands of products popular in the massage, spa, fitness and rehabilitation fields, including Biofreeze, Thera-Band, Prossage and Pedigenix.
Performance Health Chief Executive Officer Marshall*Dahneke made the presentation. "Surely this is a profession
of big hearts," Dahneke said, "and selecting only one humanitarian to honor amongst so many is not easy. I'm grateful that we have such a special person to highlight tonight. "This year's award winner is a caring therapist, a devoted educator, someone who is dedicated to building and strengthening massage," he added. "A pioneer in the field of pediatric massage, our honoree works tirelessly so that every child has a better chance of benefiting from nurturing, healing touch.
"Those who know our recipient use adjectives to describe such as, down to earth, approachable and compassionate,"*Dahneke said. "Our honoree has appeared on The Learning Channel, NBC and PBS.
"She has been nicknamed by some 'the rock star of massage,' because five years ago her family sold everything and moved into a tour bus, living on the road 365 days a year ... bringing infant and pediatric massage all over the world."
In Allen's honor, Performance Health presented the Massage Therapy Foundation a check in the amount of $2,500 in her name.
