ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- After the city closes its doors, a controversial massage parlor re-opens a second time only to have the city condemn the building again for code violations.
The massage parlor in the 700 block of North Prospect in Rockford has raised many eyebrows since initially opening. One neighbor even says she found an ad on Backpage.com, a classified advertising website known for illicit activity.
The city says the building remains closed Friday evening after being open for less than a day. This comes after the owner had fixed prior plumbing issues. Friday, the city once again condemned the building after the legal department looked into state regulations for legally licensed massage therapists. According to state law, in order to operate as a massage therapist the individual with the license has to be on site, which was not the case Friday.
Rockford building code official Thaddeus Mack says the city's legal department, building code department and Rockford police were on site Friday to address these concerns.
Mack says the city is checking a number of massage parlors that may be in violation of city code.
