Microdiscectomy - post surgery hot flushes

Hey guys,

New to this site and I've seen some great threads that have really helped me gain a reality on how quickly I can expect to recover.

Just wondering however if anyone else has experienced the following after lumbar surgery:
-hot flushes
-restlessness -arms & legs
-difficulty sleeping

I have been to see my GP who thinks this is unrelated to my recent microdiscectomy and has done some blood tests however whilst I awaiting the results I'm holding out hope that someone else may have had a similar experience as to what I'm going through because it would be a great relief to have one less thing to have to think about + it all seems too coincidental.

Hiya Brighteyed.

Restlessness, aching, heaviness and just not knowing what to do with your arms, legs hips and so on, are all common post operative symptoms, as are sleeping difficulties. It’s too early to attribute these to you microdiscectomy, but I think it is a safe bet. Just keep records of the pains, where they are, if they are getting worse, and when you have your next post op consultation, show your Surgeon. It may just take time to heal, so don’t panic!!

As for the hot flushes, I can’t say if I have had those, but when I am in severe pain, my blood pressure shoots up and I get hot and flustered, and my face goes a very attractive shade of pink!

Thank you so much for your reply!! It's great to hear that the restlessness and pains are all normal!

The restlessness is finally starting to ease but the hot flushes are still a nightmare. I also have mood swings (unlike me), sugar cravings etc. I have had a lot of blood work done which is all normal which is great but I'm only 22 so no idea why else I'm getting these hot flushes. I would have thought medication withdrawal if they hadn't started whilst I was on all the medication. Still... Fingers crossed they stop soon, everything else Is going great now and hoping to return to work next week. Kinda hoping it was a post op symptoms so at least I would know they would subside, I'll let you know what my surgeon comes back with!
