For most professionals, one of the highest and most esteemed honors is to be recognized by your industry peers.
Mark Carangelo, a licensed massage therapist and owner of American Institute of Alternative Medicine in East Brunswick, was inducted into the World Massage Festivalโs 2017 Massage and Bodywork Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place in May in North Carolina.
โThis honor is exceptional because of the amount of expertise is required to attain getting in to the Hall of Fame,โ said Carangelo.
According to the World Massage Festivalโs website, worldmassagefestival.com, the organization honors the industryโs professionals who build bridges in the profession, educated the public about massage therapy and also who strive to educate fellow massage therapists.

Carangelo travels the country and presents lectures on acute pain and chronic pain. His audience includes massage and physical therapists, as well as athletic trainers, chiropractors, nurses, physicians, occupational therapists and high-end sports and athletic trainers.
He works for the Columbia University sports medicine staff as a manual therapist and is a consultant for the UCLA football strength staff and has been on the New York Jets strength and conditioning staff and works with many elite athletes from UFC MMA fighters to world-class swimmers.
He is also past co chairman of the New Jersey massage and bodywork licensing board.
โI was a manual orthopedic therapist for the New York Jets strength and conditioning team from 2009-2011," he said. "Also, worked for Columbia University football team and now privately for the Washington Redskins as well as a variety of collegiate athletes ranging from football to ladies basketball.โ
Carangelo said his work is rewarding, and he especially enjoys the mentoring and teaching aspects of his profession.
โI enjoy serving others in healing and better health," he said. "Teaching is my passion and I absolutely love my student body and assisting them in their journey.โ
He admits it was emotional when he learned was being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
โI felt so honored and humbled to be recognized by my peers and to stand with the legends on our great profession,โ Carangelo said. โI will continue to raise the standard of our field.โ
