Before exploring destination gatherings, let’s turn to the means by which Lakhiani has developed apps that accelerate the success rate of online learning.
APPS
Mindvalley produced Omvana, which has been the highest grossing Health and Fitness app on the iTunes store in over 30 countries. In mid-2014, Mindvalley’s second mobile app, Dormio, became the second most downloaded Health and Fitness app in the USA.
More recently, Mindvalley launched its Quests app, which the company says increases online learning completion rates by 800%. Described as “a new cross-channel digital learning platform that brings together microlearning technology and virtual communities,” Quests leverages the experience of 10,000 paying students.
Lakhiani explains further,
The Mindvalley Quests mantra is impossible goals achieved together, and that's something our own community helped us verbalize. We've found two ways to consistently amplify a person's motivation, focus and follow-through, and solve the fundamental problem with online learning in general - which is that only five percent of people ever complete the online courses they take."
The two tactics are to break down the lessons into manageable, daily 20 minute chunks and to engage the global community of learners who are taking a particular class simultaneously.
Mindvalley is introducing new classes monthly; making geography no longer a hurdle to overcome. And speaking of geography, let’s finish with a look at Mindvalley’s third strategy.

This column has covered a plethora of festivals. There is a groundswell of support for festivals that celebrate not only music, but wellness, learning and personal growth. A-Fest that strikes that balance, in a series of compelling settings that is a growing aspirational destination for many people.
Mindvalley has been making innovative strides in this direction. They have developed a thoughtful approach that combines online learning, an app that ensures the former are effective and destination gatherings. Let’s look at all three.
ONLINE LEARNING
Mindvalley was founded by Vishen Lakhiani, and he has overseen the company’s remarkable success. With no loans, investors or government grants, in the last ten years Lakhiani has turned Mindvalley into a $100 million company, employing 200 people from 40+ countries. Honored as a WorldBlu Most Democratic Workplace, Mindvalley is sparking a global revolution in the way people learn. CEO Lakhiani is also a bestselling NY Times author, and was recently ranked as the Most Popular Author on Amazon. He sits on the Innovation Board for XPRIZE Foundation. Lakhiani was born in Kuala Lumpur and studied electrical engineering at the University of Michigan. After moving to New York City and going essentially broke, Lakhiani grasped adversity head on with a strategy of meditation, $700 and his laptop in a Starbucks to form Mindvalley. Lakhiani, who is determined to help revolutionize the global education system, asserts
Our mission is to empower people to live healthier and happier lives, unleash their fullest potential and be extraordinary, by introducing them to tools and ideas that are currently missing from traditional education systems. And our goal? To launch a school for one billion people worldwide."
