Nail Fungus ?

Yikes! The tips of my pinky fingernails have white half-moon shapes on them. The nails are not split. Could this be a nail fungus? This scares me because I hear that they are like impossible to get rid of! Any ideas?

How long have they been like this?? Did you some how damage the nail?? I have had this happen at times when my nail was bent at the tip.

Is the nail lifted?? Are there any funky odors coming from your nails?? Is it coming from the edge of the nail or the center?? Fungus usually starts at the edge or tip of the nail unless you somehow damaged or cracked the middle of your nail.

If I were you, I would keep track of it for a couple weeks before doing anything with it. If it grows out with your nail, I wouldnt worry about it. But, if the band keeps getting wider and/or changes color then it is time to act. You can either see your doctor and he will take care of you, or you can buy an over the counter product like FungiNail.

Good luck, nail fungus can be tricky to get rid of.

That's not nail fungus. It might just be little bubbles of air in the nail.

NOT impossible but it does take a long time. The meds required make some sick. It takes nearly a year to resolve completely..

OK, the little half moons...if there is no discoloration it most likely is NOT a fungus.

While we're talking about nail fungus and Lamasil.

I'd like to add an old wives tale for those who have experienced the "yellow hard nail" syndrome.

Back in Vietnam they would use Vick's Vapor Rub on the mens toes for this. I have a friend (nail tech) who suggested this to me for a client I had who was having nail problems of this sort. It did take about a year plus, but the yellow discoloration, and hardness, along with the severe nail sensitivity did finally resolve.

It's just another thing to try for that sort of problem - inexpensive and if a client won't try the medical route maybe it will help.

I know this doesn't have anything to do with the half-moons, but I thought I'd interject. 8)
