National Massage Chain's Sex Assault Scandal Hits Connecticut - WNPR News

Over 400 women have reported that they’ve been sexually assaulted by male masseuses at a national chain of spas called Massage Envy. One of the accused is an Enfield man who worked at a Glastonbury franchise.

Patrick Corning has been arrested for inappropriately touching two female massage clients. He’s been booked twice on assault charges for separate incidents that occurred last September.

Glastonbury Police said Corning became a licensed masseuse just five months before the alleged incidents took place.

“Patrick Corning was brought to our attention by two different female clients of Massage Envy here in Glastonbury,” said Lieutenant Corey Davis, a spokesman for the department. “We have not received any other complaints of other massage therapists at that location sexually assaulting people.”

Davis said that the company’s manager has been cooperative. He said Massage Envy terminated the masseuse once it received an initial complaint.

The owner of the Glastonbury Massage Envy declined to be interviewed but did confirm that Corning didn’t work there anymore and hadn’t since September.

One woman reached out the day of her massage in September. That started the investigation and then, just a day later, the other client reached out to the Glastonbury Police Department anonymously through email. She eventually came forward to press charges.

Corning was arrested for second-degree sexual assault on February 11 related to allegations from the second woman who reported an abuse claim against him. He was arrested for fourth-degree sexual assault on December 6 regarding the initial complaint.

Corning’s next appearance in front of a judge is at Manchester Superior Court -- on charges related to the first arrest -- on February 27.

Lt. Corey Davis believed the incidents were unrelated to any occurrences of sexual assault at Massage Envy locations nationally. But he did say it’s possible Corning assaulted more women.

If there are more victims, the department encourages them to contact the police.
