Before I ask this question which has been the topic of 1000 posts I know, Believe me when I say, I really can't find this one answer.

However, I have been searching for hours now and I can honestly say it is hilarious going back and looking at posts from 3 or 4 years ago. I have been going to SJO for 6 years and just seeing some names of chica's and bartenders that I have not heard from in a couple of years bring back some great memories. It will be fun to look again in another 5 years.

Question is. Just because the size of the Sportsmen's lodge is small compared to the hotel delrey (where I see what kind of $$ they make), is it safe to say that a bartender at the SL can average 30-35,000 colones in a night? I know a girl who is bartending somewhere else now and not making the money she wants too..[/img]

I would say that could be true certain times of year, but remember, there is usually at least 2 girls per shift and they share tips.

It is certainly NOT the case every night, but when there are good weekend nights and large sporting events I am sure they do quite well.

Here's the scoop for your friend:

There are three ways for a bartender to make money at Sportsmens... All in all it's a very good gig for those working there.

1. Base salary at the Sportsmans is very good. I will not divulge hard amounts out of respect for the privacy of my beloved old stomping grounds, but I will say that Bill pays very well... his base salary is 50% higher than what the Del Rey bartenders make in base salary.

2. The bartenders also make the 10% commission on all drinks and food bought, but this must be distributed equally between the bartenders, the waitresses AND the kitchen staff.

3. The bartenders and waitresses also divy up all tips made for the night. Kitchen staff are NOT entitled to a share of this, so the bartenders and waitresses stand to make good cash on this every night.

I have a friend who used to bartend at Sportsmans, and she told me that, when adding up all those things I mentioned, you could EASILY make more than 30-35k colones in a night when the crowd is good, but the key point is WHEN THE CROWD IS GOOD. Obviously, as with most any bar, those working nights and weekends stand to make better money. Regardless, she should stand to make more than what she needs at the Sportsmans... Of course she should already know that having a fun friendly easygoing personality and professional attitude is key to winning the tips! Umm, looking cute doesn't hurt either... 8)

Also, I forgot to ask in the beginning....Can anyone think of any other bars in the area that she could make this kind of money? Casinos maybe?...The Delrey, SL, and Presidente are the obvious 3 that come to mind.

Any info I could pass along would be great.

I know what I should do is come down there and help her job search by day and monger by night.
