On site chair for IHM

Hi all,

I'm doing an event on Friday and Just wondered if anyone uses an on site chair to perform Indian Head massage sessions and what the best way to do it would be?

We do own an onsite chair, but for IHM we use a folding chair with a fairly low back, from IKEA. Cost about 5.99. It's a basic plastic chair, I would think you would get similar from Argos. I put a fleece over it, and then a small towel tucked down the back.

I had a treatment on an ordinary chair too, it was fine.

Thanks for replies. I wasnt that clear with my question! What I wanted to know was how therapists go about using the ergonomic chairs to perform indian head massage treatments. I was trained using normal low back chair.

I presume one would position as normal on the ergo chair and carry out routine asking client to sit upright to work on the face.

Just wondering if anyone does in any other way??

Hi Mal;

I'm a Seated Acupressure Therapist (well have been cert. for years but never got off my backside and started). I guess this post is too late but in any event.

IHM forms part of many a therapist's Acupressure kata and usually one would simply support the client's head and direct them from the rested position to the upright seated position. You can quite easily perform IHM from there.

If you know how to position the client in a massage chair properly then again you can still perform much of the IHM sequence from this position and place more pressure in your movements.

A nice movement whilst the client is in the face cradle is to position yourself infront of them and stretch the neck by placing one hand on a shoulder as an anchor, cradling the ocipital bone in the palm of your other hand and gently pulling/stretching.
