Online studies

Hi there-
I'm looking for a good, affordable online Aromatherapy course. I want to learn more (for my own benefit) I DON'T want to become an aromatherapist. I'm interested in mixing my own blends for skincare, etc... Any advice?

You could have a look at the College of Natural Health Sciences, they run a correspondence course for aromatherapy.

I've only just sent of the third unit of the Basic course- lots of questions, no essays for the moment. Been working on anatomy and physiology.

I've got this course too and have kinda come to a stand still with it a bit. It wanted me to do case studies of massage which is not what I want to do anyway... I don't want to do a poor attempt at writing up the massage part just to pass that part as that doesn't feel right, but it also doesn't feel right to be doing case studies having learnt the techniques without learning it as a practical lesson.

So... not quite sure where to go with it from here! Find the oils part fascinating and am using them quite a lot, not necessarily as a massage tho.

I TOTALLY understand what you're saying. I'm not interested in the massage part at all either, as I don't want to BECOME an aromatherapist- I'm more interested in mixing oils and making my own skin products. So.... I'm not sure either then- when I get to the case studies part. Maybe I can practice on hubby.... I have actually registered for the 'package'- all 3 levels up to 'international diploma'.

I think ther reason I stopped is that I felt a bit of fraud about it. Not saying I was terrible at massage part, just didn't feel trained enough via a book essentially...

And for case studies, I think it was about 6 people, each with about 4 sessions each... I could have got that wrong tho. Will double check.

Bit of a nuisance tho as I'm loving the essential oils part of it all...

hi flowing flower, is it the kevala course you are doing? i understood it that if you are already a massage therapist then you need to do case studies, to become an aromatherapist- as you already have a massage qualification. if you are not a therapist then kevala do workshops where you will learn the massage techniques. the essential oils are facinating and i love experimenting with them with some good results.

Bach Flower Remedies, they do a great dip course that would be much better for you than aromatherapy

hi markreading, have you done the bach flower course? do you think it would sit alongside aromatherapy? i am doing the a-z of essential oils as apart from offering my clients aromatherapy massage i would like to make them a blend ie; skin cream for eczema to also help them. how do the bach flowers work? and is there much call for it?

This course is good, as it only involves a tiny bit of massage and if you don't want to do the massage part, you are allowed to miss it out. It is all about the oils and how they affect you on a spiritual level as well as emotional and physical... it isn't online, they send the paperwork from America, and once you complete the whole course in your own time you send it back to be marked.

BSY Group have a good distance (paper) course on blending your own aromatherapy products to make creams, ointments, oil blends etc... its for aromatherapists to further their abilities, but if you arent using it professionally and only for yourself, it should be ok...

I have found the course great so far. I got 2 textbooks on Spiritual Aromatheray, manual, egyptian music CD and a set of small oils, a few empty bottles, droppers and an empty spray bottle. I am about a quarter of the way through the course so far. It is just what I was looking for, as I am very spiritual and wanted to learn about the spiritual side of the oils. I hope to do an aromatherapy course in the future which involves the massage side of things too.

i did ring bsy to find out more about making and mixing own blends to sell to the public. i was told that i would need to get a safety assessment and toxicology tests done -up to £1,000 per product! as well as the dti being notified. when i have gained my aromatherapist qualification then i can make up a blend/cream and sell my client
