Open Letter to the Owner of New Fantasy

Sir,

I was told that your plan for New Fantasy from the get go was to open it for a while at the old prices and then turn it into a more expensive upscale place. With the price going up to 16,000 colones come the first of the year, it looks like you're taking the first step of that plan.

I am all in favor of anyone running their business to take best advantage of the market they can, and in this letter I want to question whether raising the prices further is going to be to your long run profit.

I know you, like a lot of us, spent a lot of time at NF when it first opened. It really did seem like a New kind of place. With Arianna cracking the whip the girls were especially accomodating, and the 12,000 colones was just a touch more expensive then other places and made it seem like an especially good value. There was a period of about six months when I went at least four times a week and spend my entire entertainment budget there. A lot of locals did the same, and they really had a high volume high spirited thing going.

Time passes and things change. Now I think the buzz about the place is a left over buzz. I think if you went there as a stranger you would have to admit it's not nearly as well run as it used to be. Tourists still go there based on what it was back then--but you certainly don't hear people on this board raving about it anymore. The front desk people aren't as into it, you don't have the presence the drug guy had, you have a lot more going-through-the-motion girls there, and it's much more of a routine experience--not a rip-off, but nothing special either.

Maybe the location and the steam room are such good selling points that even as the quality of the overall experience declines you'll still make money at higher prices. But maybe not. There's a couple of girls who works at Oasis who used to work at New Fantasy and they both claim they make more now on volume at Oasis, and I have a strong sense that you'll find the same thing is true on your house side of things.

If you read this board you know there are a lot places with better talent a mile or so away for 10,000 colones. You have a better location, it's true, but these places are more personable and are way better on price. They are your competition. I wish you could try the experiment of lowering the price back to 12,000 colones and look at your bottom line. I don't expect you'll do it, but if you did I think the results would surprise you. At 12,000 colones the place would start hopping again, and the buzz would come back and the better girls would again be lining up to work there.

Whenever discussions of price come up someone always does the math and shows that 16,000 now is only 13,358 then and gosh these people have to live. But the business point is that there are places doing well at 10,000 and I think you're making a mistake by not pricing in a way that regards them as your competition.

I do wish you the best of luck in your endeavours however you decide to pursue them, and would also like to thank you for opening the place back up and adding a venue to the mix even if it's one that at the new price I will no longer frequent.

I have to say congratulations.. you have just amazed me how some people hem and haw about $35 bucks.. I mean.. dude please... if 10.000 colones is your fancy then go at it but to sit and write a open letter such as this makes me realize that some people have way to much time on thier hands.

NF and Oasis are different.. NF has a steam and sauna. they have a premium location... hence they will have higher overhead yes???? Oasis has .. what 5 or 6 rooms.. they cram the girls in a small waiting area.. when ever i go there i have to pass the group to take a shower which is uncomfortable.. and the tables suck.... my last visit it took me almost 30 min to get back to my hotel with the traffic. the thing that they have going for them is they do get a good group of girls .. but even that is irregular.

I mean does this not make sense????

if they have to raise prices a little to compensate.. then so be it but to sit and say they should be inline as oasis is a little off.. don´t you think.

To me it is a matter of principle. Hey I want cheap pu*sy also, but damn, there has to be a limit in how hard you fight for a couple of bucks.

In Houston, I gladly pay 150 for an hour with a quality woman........now in CR I won't pay anywhere near that amount. I won't pay the 100 to the BM gals, but I won't try to take one out for 25 bucks either.

I try to find a happy medium.......I always tip the girls a couple of thousand colones for good service, however it is a choice.

Come on guys..........most of us make a decent living and make decent bucks or our asses wouldn't be on the airplane heading to CR.

I would hate to think the gentlemen on this board would bargain and bargain to get pu*sy for the least amount of money. Most of you guys spend at least a thousand bucks for the total trip for about 4 or so days, so what the hell is a few thousand colones here and there for good service.

It is a good thing to save money, but it is another to be too freaking cheap.

the point is that bookie is comparing 2 different places ..

that would be like comparing 747 to oasis... and asking why isn´t oasis the same price level as 747.


anyway.. the point is moot.. it just amazes me that there are so many darn cheap people (pinche) . I just thank god that Im not in that financial situation to always be nickel and diming everything.

I have a good friend of mine thats like that.. this guy while we will be walking will spot a coin on the other side of the street and cross the street to go pick up a dime.. and then he has this big ass stupid grin like he just struck gold or something.. : But still he´s a lovable guy


its a strange thing when your in CR when it comes to losing price perspective.

Í´ve often caught myself in similar situations... for example

I had a taxi that took me for a ride.. I should have asked him before hand how much.. I just forgot but normally the ride would be 1000 colones.. anyway this guy was a pirate cab driver and when I finally reached my destination.. he told me 1100.. me being from the bronx I said WHAT!!!!! esta loco I always pay 1000.. he of course he started arguing that its a 1100.. I then only gave him 1000 he got out of the cab and we almost duked it out..

I mean here I am a grown man in a situation where I would possibly be in a street fight kicking some poor slob ass..or vica versa.... when it dawn on me..

hey..I´m going to trade fists and possibly injure myself for 100 colones... thats 22 cents... .. can you imagine ..

I agree with bookie. On Saturday my favourita had family commitments and was not scheduled to work at NF until Tuesday. Well no matter just hope in a cab to one of the places near Oasis only 650 colones which has showers in the rooms, a bed and an equal selection of fine chicas, and save a net 3350 which buys a very nice apres sexo at Macchu Picchu. I walked back taking the sights and smells in along the way. What a pleasant way to spend part of the day. So I have to agree any increase in price is making the competition even better.

First, "A HOPE in a taxi..." How apt! Only thing more dangerous is a walk down the sidewalk, as it were...

Then, Seahawk. Dude, I'm thinking nobody will have a lot of sympathy because a $1 increase in sexual favors translates into a $700 budget shortfall or, worse, a reduction to 1.5 X per day!! I'm happy for you, though...

As consumers, IMHO, we should ALL do what is possible to encourage price restraint. Price inflation has killed many havens. Even Rio and, gulp, Buenos Aires are going haywire with new pricing.

My vote is that we squeeze the owners, but spoil the (good) chicas.

So, I take my ass to Zona Blue.........I have a great session with Samantha.....so I give her a 2000 colone tip.........translates $4.30 in good ole USA money.

I have pity for anybody who thinks a small tip will bankrupt them........well not really.

Again, I will not pay $100 to anybody, be it a multi hour session or even an overnighter. I am not that generous, nor will I ever be.

Seahawk you might speak for yourself, I get laid quite often.........but if the chica deserves a small tip (she can't ask for it, oversell, or have bad service) she will get it by my choice.

Bookie has a very valid point and I totaly agree wiith his letter.Yes New Fantasy has a much better facility and I in fact had a good session with a nice looking girl there this weekend.I thought the quality or talent looked a bit better than it did last trip this Sunday.I certaily was glad that they were in fact open yesterday afternoon.However I frequent Oasis a good bit and thay don't thave the same facilitties and location but their talent level in my opinion far exceeds New Fantasy and my percentage of realty good quality sessions has been much higer at Oasis than New Fantasy.You get a far better massage from girls I have been with at Oaisis as well if you care for that part which I enjoy almost as much as the sex personaly.I am all for keeping prices under control.Myself and a fellow board member were having a great time at a local tico strip bar with quality girls lst night and discussing the topic of cost of sevices relative to quality of experince and agreed that there is very little correlation between the two which I think could be an interesting poll.I frequent places for services from the whole spectrum ranging from 3000col. massge places to the Del Rey including Idem which is on the top end with the Del Rey.I think New Fantasy should think real hard about raising prices considering some of the competition out there.Not sure they should lower them neccecisarily but if they raise them there will be better options available in the same price range or cheaper.Just some opinions for what is worth .rbc100

Alot of good points have been made here. I can relate to Seahawks concern where a monger either lives here or visits frequently. I have seen the prices soar since 1993 and it is not reasonable considering the fact other commodities have not risen as much nor has the chica talent.

IMHO I think ALL our board members should focus their price sensitivity to an area that we can possibly help control.......NOT the MP but rather the independent chicas of the Del Rey. I often wanted to start a separate category on the board relating to this topic. If we work together rather than against each other we can bring about an equilibrium in Suppy-Demand at the DR. I'm sure some of you guys think i'm crazy but it can happen. Think of how many CRT members or readers of the board frequent the DR. If only we could have a day where we agree not to give in to the inflated prices!

Can't wait to hear the feedback on this one!

CRmarcos has a very valid point on independents.I have seen a decline in quality of talent as well as ability to negotiate in the Del Rey and Key Largo the last few trips which has further contributed to my venturing into the local scene.As far as propina for service my pecentage goes up considerably for the low prices places when I get good service becauase the girls generally only get about half the fee so in a cheap place they sure don't get paid well.I have a great deal of respect for the consistently good massage parlor girl because the has to be really hard work.I think the problems at the Del Rey are a lot more impotant for the GFE guys than me as a shoprt time guy as those girls have the portential to provide that type experience.

Thanks for all of the input. Speaking for myself, I know what the price of pu*sy really is in San Jose. That is the price I pay. I might ad that I havn't did a girl in the New Fantacy since they raised the price from 6000. I might have some interest if the price came back down to that price. Every time I stop in there lately there are at least 20 chicas and none of them working. Kind of reminds me of the Del Rey. Free Enterprise? SEAHAWK
