Hey, it is about time to think with your real head (for a change for some people?). Although the issue is real, such thread may potentially be more harmful (raising fear, starting unnecessary flamewars and invites racial discrimination) than helping.
Since the SARS scare became more widespread, immediately, airline business and the businesses in many Asian/Chinese places (restaurants and shopping malls etc) have gone down dramatically. Of course it is unclear whether such avoidance is totally jusified. It is the fear of the unknown in action!

As of this morning, the front page of Toronto Star cited that SARS is now not even Toronto's problem, but Ontario's problem. The major targets for preventions promoted by the health officials are essentially the Hospitals. The rest (including MP visits I guess), voluntary quarrantine based pretty much on common sense. There is nothing about asian in their "guidelines".

So I would say use your common sense.

I would never avoid oriental establishments. I am totally crazy about oriental women and that "special touch" so many of them have.

SARs is colorblind, and asian people love non-asian SP and MPA's too ! Take me as an example...hehe
I have not been to the orient in over 20 years and it does not make me "safer" than any other person. Next time, ask your SP or MPA if they have been "serving" me. If the answer is yes, jump off that table.. haha

My sarcasm was a result of my sheer annoyance at such an absurd mindset regarding it being confined to "Oriental" mpa's, or even that the risk would be significantly higher. There may be a slightly higher chance, but the virus is not specific to Asians and could be transmitted by anyone and in any location.

PS For those of you who insist on being ignorant, at least be politically correct. It's Asian. Oriental is a type of rug ... ( do I need a disclaimer here ? )

I have been to a few oriental establishments over the past week and they are starting to hurt. If anything, it's time to show your support.

Get your fix here and please be smart if you've been over the pond during the past month.

Yes- initially it hit the Asian

But in Toronto, non-asian are affected more than asian.

60 paramedics are staying home

many hospital workers are staying home

Majority of them are non-asian

Sars has successfully break the race barrier.

You can support who want want, but when a health official showed up at your door -

Then BINGO - stay home for 10 days - or 14 days.

Don't know if they would tell you why ?

One of our dearest member has to stay home for 10 days because someone in his family was in a certain hospital.

Imagine if one of the MPA or one of the client got SARS, it will be every guys, MPA who were in that MP has to stay home for 10 days.

You will likely get a visit from the Health department tell you and your whole family to stay home.

I had not eaten out or went to any Malls for the last 2 weeks. Of course, you are free to move around, until someone you have come into contact get SARS.

By avoiding asian malls, food and massage, some people at
least think that they can be proactive in a situation that they really have no control over

My recent, I might add, aversion to 'Scare'borough joints has nothing to do with sinophobia or anything related to ethnicity....

....it's only b/c of the S.A.R.S. outbreak.

I still have "yellow fever" on ocasion- not the kind caused by anopheles mosquitoes, though (as in malaria). I mean this kind: [do a search on "Anna Ohura" (asian w/ huge naturals), and you'll see what I mean].
