Park Hotel Reopening

There was a Chinese Restaraunt next to (left) Park Hotel. I enjoyed taking the girls there for eating. It was cheap and portions were plentiful! The owners family included a good looking daughter who would waitress. The owner would come into Hotel Park Bar for a beer. But, I don't think there is a chance he would "reopen" Hotel Park.

The rumor sounds a lot like the dreaded word on the street. Could you be a little more specific. Might help if you told us where you heard it? How reliable a source? More than from one person? Any verification?

At this point there is absolutely nothing to give anyone any reason to give any credence to that rumor.

No verification. Just heard it from one of the girls who used to work there, who heard it from another of the girls and from a taxi driver who used to hang around there. We'll just have to wait and see what develops.

Went by there after my workout this morning and spoke to the wife of the owner of the Chinese Restaurant. They are doing renovations with an eye to leasing the place. The bar area was gutted and they were laying a new ceramic floor this a.m.

She says they have not finalized a lease with anyone and that most likely the place will not be Park Hotel Version 2.0 :evil: :evil:

Truth is, often "words on the street" and rumors are golden, if only as a starting point for discovery of the facts. I appreciate "keeping it real" (i.e. intellectually honest) but jumping in to criticize the poster of said rumor isn't always helpful either.

I'm glad they're renovating the old hotel. Perhaps it will become a pension for gringos with too much time on their hands...

No, I didn't miss it. However, the poster above states that renovations are happening. So... some truth exists to the rumor.

Thats like saying:

Rumor or word on the street is that they are going to start a bullet train from San Jose to Heredia.

The you see men working on that track so they can start rush hour service between the 2 cities the same as they have established to Pavas.
The train averages about 10 km/hour, hardy bullet train stuff.

Then you could post that renovations to the track are happening therefore the rumor of the bullet train has some truth. Thats a real stretch in my book.

1. It seems clear that the Park Hotel (the building) will reopen. (i.e. it will no longer be standing vacant).

No one here has attempted to define in what manner the building will be used.

2. The lack of lease isn't defined. The owner's wife might have been stating that the Asian couple did not yet have renters/lessors.

3. Here's a leap. No one would renovate a property were they not planning to use it, rent it or sell it.

Therefore... word on the streets/rumor is not necessarily incorrect. The building appears as if it will indeed be reopened. Irish Drifter, your discounting the rumor out of hand is nonsense.

As is the case with any locale where solid information is difficult to nail down, one has to occasionally give some small credence to rumors and then try to follow them up. "Word on the streets" was that Kamur was being sold. Those rumors proved true, and said rumors had quietly emerged even before Kamur was listed for sale. "Word on the streets" was that Bill Alexander was planning to buy the Hotel castillo; those rumors so far have proven false. You can never tell until more information is discovered, so why show such disrespect to the originator/poster of said rumor? Wouldn't it be better to take a "wait and see" attitude, rather than immediately jump in and call bullsh*t?
Your bullet train example is ridiculous, simply because a project of such magnitude would readily be verifiable. It would be huge news, whereas one small hotel being renovated would not. I get your point, but I'd prefer not to compare apples with guanabanas.

Will the Park Hotel ever be used again for a ST hot pillow hotel, featuring lewd and lascivious entertainment on the weekends? Probably not, but again who knows? Word on the streets is that the hotel's owners are renovating, and that particular word seems to be correct.
