Pedicure tubs and Foot Baths

terab brought up a thought, which got me to thinking.  She mentioned an inflatable foot bath. آ So as not to hijack her thread, I would like to ask...What foot bath or peducure tubs can you recommend?Both the professional and non-professional types would be appreciated. آ Right now I have a Homedics foot tub that I got at Foleys. آ It is "fair". آ I'd like to find something somewhat portable and not to big, but that keeps the water warm and makes bubbly type waters, without it being too terribly noisy. آ This one is quite loud.Any info on any tub or pedicure spa is appreciated though, because you never know when you are gonna move up in the world to bigger and better things! آ

The main thing to remember is hygiene! I’ve had horror stories from a beauty lecturer of  an entire day spa being closed down for a month while they tried to clean it out.  They got a skin eating bacteria in the pedi-chairs (fancy chairs with foot spa attached.).  They changed the water between clients but did not flush the system through with full hospital grade cleaner for 5 min between clients.  The horror bacteria loved foot spa temp water and they got quite a few clients infected. All the spa cleaners I’ve found seem to be sulphumic acid or similar which is not very environmentally friendly.   I don’t do many foot soaks myself, so minimise waste product that way.  The bigger places must either go through a lot of stuff or be possible breeding grounds for strange bacteria.lecturer might be trying to scare everyone, but I had heard similar reports from overseas.I've not found a quiet foot tub that has bubbles.  To a certain extent, if you have bubbles you have more pipes for bacteria, more hygiene issues.  I use one with bubbles for my home use but for clients, I have one without bubbles that just vibrates and heats.  Usually smaller, less mess, easier to clean, less noise. Lots of  fungal things with feet to worry about too.

here are a couple of links to the inflatable baths i was referring to.  if you do a search on google you can find them in lots of different places for lots of different prices.  i think i like the looks of the round one better but was curious if the other one would "capture" more of the heat and not let it escape so easily.   :-/

Those are really cute, terab!  I am thinking the non-round one would be easier to carry with less spillage too.  Never saw something like that before. آ Thanks for the info!melb, Thanks for the info. آ Always important to remember the bubble holes breed "yuck" easier. آ I forgot about that! آ You brought up some really good points. آ Defintely should have asked for input regarding sanitation as well. آ In the day spa I used to work at, they used the scrubbing bubbles type cleaner after each pedi... it is a sort of lysol type cleanser that comes in a can and you spray it into the tub.... sounds like the way you described is better though.آ Mine is for home use, so I guess that would be important to mention at this point. آ Oh, and my feet look quite nice, I must add - for the peanut gallery! آ ;DOf course the more thinking and the more I wondered what was out there that was small, in case I ever needed it for work. آ Especially if I ended up doing ahshiatsu some day. آ Would have to آ have the feetsy's clean!All input is greatly apprecitated! آ Thanks guys!

My question with regards to the infection - I'd like to think that a MT would know to ask the client has any skin condition and can verify that with a visual. I wonder if it's possible to apply a antibacterial scrub to the feet before going into the tub. And yikes about not being bio-friendly.

Ruby red nail polish can hide little undernail beasties the MT is not aware of...we don't do the pedicure remember.

It's more about the professional sized foot baths which are closer to hot tub type piping than home foot spas, but similar concern. They suggest flush twice then disinfect.

I remember reading on another board that dish washing powder was a good thing to throw into a spa bath in a hotel for a while before filling for your bath.

i've used several different baths in the different spa/lons i've worked in. having had to go to the sanitation classes and *see* how the equipment ws *not* cleaned, i decided in private practice to save the money and invest in a sanijet.

and i love it.

it's quiet. and so super easy to clean and use. it is pricey but i totally suggest this one.

but then again, i've never used an inflatable one.

i ordered it straight from http://www.sanijet.com. they'll send you a great package with a dvd explaining their products (they have full baths as well).

i got the portable one that rolls around, they have stationary ones too which are cheaper. mine was $1145.

inflatable foot bath

Hi all,

I too, am starting to incorporate the salt glows for feet into my practice. I am looking for any recommendations on inflatable tubs for this purpose.

I googled and got one that looks high enough and big enough, but not sure how durable it is. Not to mention it is kinda ugly. :| Being inflatable, it will be very portable so I can offer that as an upsell to my outcall clients too.

Ceramic is the way to go

Inflatables are great, but keeping them clean is tough.

Between the grooves and them being plastic...

You can find lots of gorgeous porcelain foot baths online. They are bulky and clumsy, but if you put them in a small rolling suitcase and filll the bowl with your products and towels, it becomes a great way to be mobile.

The smooth surface is easy to clean and puts up with scrubbing well.

And the clients just LOVE the luxury of a beautiful ceramic footbath.

I'm not R&R, but the most beautiful ceramic foot bath I've found is this one http://www.thann.info/ click on Products, then THANN native Bed and Bathroom Accessories and you'll see the Hand and Foot Spa bowl. Only problem is it's designed for Asian feet (it's a Thai company) and great big Aussie feet don't fit in it. I use a big stainless steel bowl from a commercial kitchen supply place.


There are disposable tub liners like this available http://www.creativenailplace.com/trade/essie/footspa_baths.htm (uk site) or even just using a sheet of plastic (24" diameter plastic sheets are being sold as liners!). they're a little bit bigger than the disposable liners, so they may be large enough, though you would have to have them with the handle towards the client (it looks like they display them the other way)
