chit chat.? Deputy PMs do not , as far as I can recall but may be wrong, say a lot anyway. In this particular case, do you think he said nothing on purpose so as not to show himself directly supporting or opposing Cameron, or do you think he had any other reason ?

There may also be another element which is a quote from somewhere that I cannot remember ' Better to keep quiet and let people think you a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it.'
