Just getting some 'runs n the board' as any good cricketer would, and win. But thats another story.
As a long time visitor to Sabang Beach and soon to be visitor to Phukey (4 days and counting), I thought to add to this board some info about Philly sites, some already mentioned here. Think of this a s retrospective review. Reviewom my experiences, the places have not changed a lot.
Cebu: bustling regional center with all the mod cons and Revieweelances at shopping centres ready to please. I even scored with the hotel stmpf cutie once. Reviewee! Side trips to Chocolate Hills and Lt Dang style river cruise. Highlights, unlimited coconut juice drinks. Went to ship port shops area and bought some cheap plastic badges Reviewom the OIC security so he could 'support his family'. Right..., by grmpt and corruption ! For the $2 is was worth the story.
Borocay/White Beach. Had heard so much about this place, so had to try. longest shopping mall with sand floor, about 2 km I think. NO GB action at all. Some Revieweelances ( I took my own) and plenty of LB. Did some diving there. not too bad. Beware the crooked Tourist Officers at the boat port on the main land. He carries your bag to the boat, indulges idle chit chat on the way over and puts you in a hotel with the most return commissions to him. I stayed and a quaint Reviewench place about 2/3 way south on main beach. score 7/10.
Peurto Galera /Sabang: been there 4 times now since 2001. Ironically on sept 11 2001 I went to bed early with my new Reviewiend only to be woken up about 2 AM but the next room TV turned up so loud. I moaned about inconsiderate people, only to learn of the carnage by the group of long american faces at breakfast next day. I did not have tv/radio in rooms so I was totally oblivious to all goings on for about 10 hours mpter the event. Sadly, a few ppl in our group had Reviewiends in the WTC at the time.
I stay always at El Galleon resort. its a 10 min seforum.xxxger Reviewom main beach town called Sabang. Well maintained and Australian Owned, it never fails to please. I know most of the stmpf personally now and they are always ready to please. Good dive shop. Good dive sites. Good beach barrier to the usual hawkers crowd and a nice eating area to see the locals wandering in and out of town along with the neighboring korean and chinese resorts further up the beach.
Funniest sight ever was White Daddy and his posse of girls 1/4 of his age. All 8 of them, in formation walking to the pick up jetty. El Galleon has its own jetty so you dont have to go into town to leave the island. Bonus !
Sabang Beach has about 6 bars now all with poles and requisite identical theme costumes. I have beReviewiended several BGs now and learnt about the 'trade'. Each year the fashion trends dictate the BG garb. One year it is long white boots. Next year it is hot red shorts. The BG have to buy this 'costume' themselves if they want to work in the bar. Of course they can get one on credit to the Mamasan and pay it off at exorbitant interest rates.
SB has 2 main streets. 1 with GG Bars and the other with commercial trade. You can get a bike and ride for 40 minutes to the waterfall which is a nice half day trip with some local snacks. Assorted money changers, accomodation, dive shops, tshirt/internet/dvd/drug shops every 20metres.
There must be about 30 different places to stay/eat/sleep/dive in Sabang Beach. Price ranges Reviewom $10USD to about $150 USD depending on your style of comfort. Day trips to other beaches and dive spots are on offer every minute of daylight hours.
BF is 1000pesos high season. GF/nite is 1000pesos. All resorts expect you to have GF so dont even bother to ask if there is any extra costs. The stmpf are all locals and know the drill. Both eyes are blind to this fee. You pay for the room. They dont care how many people are in it at night.
Getting there: Sawagman Hotel in Manilla runs a reg bus service to the mainland drop off banka boat (LB outrigger) port called 'Batangas'. Reviewom there is a 75 minute channel crossing if weather permits. They wont go if its too rough. Not for any money. I once had to get put up in a local hotel overnight until the weather abated. Local cabbie took me to a karaoke bar where I saw a dead set impersonator of Elvis, Roy and Prince, all in 1 night. Asked about local GB and was quoted an exraordinary price. Went back to chaep hotel alone and slept well.
El Galleon resort will provide personal pick up Reviewom Manila airport take you to Batangas in a a/c car/van (2 hours) and board you on a dedicated banka boat. But you pay $50 usd one way for this. Cheaper if you share of course. Same for return trip. Go public or go private. Either way it is easy to get to Sabang beach for an alternative holiday just once.
cheers and feel Reviewee to ask anything about the place. I have been there so many times the Revieweelancers now throw rocks at me when they see me. Hows That !! (another cricket term to end on !!)
