Information has been received that the Key Largo now is the home for a full time blues band for Friday nights? Is this information accurate? Perhaps it is Saturday nights....but it's each and every week. Inquiring minds want to know, please....

I would love to see a good blue's bar in San Jose. I lived in Memphis,Tenn. and blue's music was everywhere( BB King, Buddy Guy). I love the Delta blue's music. Chicago blue's is a close second. Nothing better than good blue's.

Brother Richards--I'm here to tell you the blues are alive and well in Memphis, in "New Breed Thing" guise. Check out a Memphian home-boy called Charlie Wood solo or with the New Memphis Underground. Think of a funkier Mose Allison playing the hell out a Hammond B-3. OH YES! Love to see my man at the KL for 3 days--he'd have enough material for a new album. Quite the incisive eye, has Mr. Wood. if you are going to be critical about the music you passively listen to, then KL isn't the place for you (may I suggest either of the Jazz Cafes?). The KL is an "of the moment" place to meet hookers, have a few joy-pops, sometimes make new friends--WITH LIVE MUSIC. I have never had a bad time there, and have met men and women who's joyful company I enjoyed. May I ask what it is you gents critical of the place were looking for in a joint? I'm not even going to pretend I like the owner and sincerely wish there were an alternative--but there isn't--yet.

Most of us don't go there for "the music". It's "the pu*sy" man and in that respect Key Largo is a fun place to go and hang out. I was just remarking that just about every live band I've heard there has...STUNK. But that won't stop me from enjoying KL. A few Cuba Libre's and some HOT HORNY babes lusting for you (or your money..),,hanging out with buddies...well what else do you need? The bands are STILL mostly awful (off key and flat) but that's OK.

....after ya been to CR maybe 2x, understand the trim is always there....it's nice to feed the head with quality tunes. I have seen a very good working blues band at the New York Bar in the past and I hope this is the band I've gotten very spotty intel on relative to Key Largo. Surely one of you rummies have been to the Key Largo and can confirm, one way or the other, what's what on a Friday or Saturday night? While it won't impact on whether I travel or not, it will impact on traveling with a rig. However, it does look like I'm the one who is going to be providing the "on the scene" report....*shrug*

Key Largo used to be a favorite of mine to go to until I realized MUCH of that music was sampled.....the guys on the stage were props...they weren't playing anything....only miming to recorded stuff.....crashed my high it did....yeah...I've seen those two playing at SL and Dunn Inn, but been there and done that given there's no back line to what they do and the same sets over and over....

And Zunbake, my brother, sorry for the delayed reply....but I been messing around with my '68 Tele thinline through the twin reverb on such hoots as "Loan Me A Dime" and "As the Years Go Passing By".

Ran into Brother Bilko at HDR -> Gringo Starrs are not playing at the NY Bar any longer.

I am not sure which nights the Blues Band will be playing but I intend to find out. Had a good buddy tell me that this new band may perhaps have the best guitar player in San Jose (to date) ? We'll see....
