Rosehip Oil Problem

About two weeks ago, I ordered some Rosehip oil from ebay, from a respectable supplier.

Never used it before........was not that impressed with it.......just used it for three days. When applying the oil, I unfortunately smeared the residue left on my fingertips, on my LIPS.

Now my lips are dry, cracked, no moisture and changed colour tone. I am gutted and think the oil may have burned my lips.

Has anyone heard of this before?

What can I do about it? (currently rubbing e45)

Am I now like this for life OR do you think the skin will peel away?

Never tried it myself, so can't comment from personal experience. According to my book on carrier oils by Len Price, rosehip oil should be good for skin regeneration and recommended in creams and lotions to minimise wrinkles and reduce scar tissue. It contains small ammounts of trans-retinoic which gives it it's theraputic properties BUT on a cautionary note may cause irritation in the case of overdose?? I can't see a smear on your lips as being classified as overdose? - sounds strange - could you have got undilute essential oil on your lips? I could imagine some e oils might cuase these symptoms. Might you have an allergy to a component in the oil - have your hands been ok?
I use bio propolis (from bioforce) to heal chapped, sore lips inc. cold sores, - really soothing and speeds up healing, so would reccommend this to get them back to normal.

I did not realise, I was supoosed to dilute the oil.

I just rubbed it straight into my face from the bottle. Was this a really bad thing to do?

My fingertips (the ones used to rub the oil into cheeks) also got dry and wrinkled. These are now better.

So was I definately supposed to dilute it?

I hope I have not permanently damaged my lip.

Crikey, what a terrible thing to have happened to you ... I've not heard of this issue before and I've been using rosehip oil (as it comes, undiluted) from Beauty Naturals as part of my daily skincare regime for the past 18 months with great effect.

Were there any instructions on the bottle of rosehip oil? Do let the people know about the problems you have been experiencing ...

Just wondering how you're doing Ben? Are your lips back to normal now? Did you get any feedback from the supplier?

Hi - did not get any feedback.

My lip has not improved and I'm now scarred for life - it's horrible.

The lip is wrinkled, changed colour tone when visually compared to the untouched mucous membrane further back and is dry.

I've tried Nivea SOS Lip Balm, Nivea 'Wrinkle Effect' lip balm, E45, Ulay Beauty fluid.......all only provide temporary relief.........when I eat or drink anything, the lip balm runs off and it goes all dry and wrinkled again.

I've spent hours researching warnings concering this side effects on the web - only one web site specifically warns people against using the oil on lips (mucous membranes) - many other websites actually encourage it!

The whole industry is all ramp, ramp, ramp this oil - yet there are very few warnings concerning side effects.

It's sort of like a burn.

The oil sat nicely on the rest of my face with no problems.

I've not been to see a dermotoligist yet - what would be the point? More money down the drain? I can't imagine there is a magic cream out there?

Using the oil has ruined my life.
