sheet color?

I saw a reply to a post and the person said that she hates to see mismatched sheets on the table when she goes in for a massage.  Here's my story.  When I left the chiropractor where I had my "business" I inherited 12 white sheets, which I used for several months until I read somewhere that someone didn't like male therapists using white sheets.  So I started using the white sheet on the bottom and a different color sheet on the top.  Usually blue.  I can't see throwing the white sheets to goodwill, because they are soft, not stained...what do you all feel about a white bottom sheet and colored top sheet?  Thanks...

I use white and ivory sheets, but I also have a lightweight, very soft blanket that I use too.  The added weight of the blanket makes everything more comfortable.  But, if it's really hot, and the A/C just doesn't cut it, I will substitute the blanket for towels, especially over the breasts when client is supine, for added security.Everyone seems to LOVE my cozy blanket though.  Hmmm, come to think of it, you could save your white sheets for male clients, and use your colored sheets for female clients.  That is, if you think it's an issue.  I don't know that it is, as long as you make your client feel secure.

I have sheets of all colors and I have sheet sets.  I sometimes mix and match solids with prints -- so IMO, a white sheet mixed with one of color wouldn't bother me.

I really don't think the sheets matter too much unless they feel like burlap, have holes or you can see through them.I agree a blanket or towel can add a touch of comfort to the person on the table.

Different colored sheets wouldn't bother me at all. The only thing that has struck me as strange are busy sheets, patterns and such. I like plain best I wonder why someone wouldn't like a male MT using white sheets?

I don't personally use printed sheets or mix-matched sheets (just part of my an-al personality), but I wouldn't be bothered if I received a massage with mix-matched or printed sheets.

I don't know if I would be bothered by it but I'd certainly notice it and would think it didn't look like to took the time to think about making the table.  Which would make me think that you might not take the time to pay attention to the details on other things as well.  Might make me begin to wonder.  I like the other idea of using white sheets on the men, colored on the women if you're concerned about the fact that you can see through them.  If it were me I'd make sure I used the same color sheets and put a blanket on the top.  Then you'll have nothing to worry about.

 I wouldnt walk out of an office with red plaid and green striped  sheets together - but i would take notice, I agree, its a detail and a near first impression for new clients. I think two solid colors that look nice together, or a print and a solid that match are just fine.  A friend of mine does all Navy blues and creams.  Plaids, solids, striped whatever but they are all blues and creams so she can mix and match them (well, maybe not the stripes and plaids together  )   I have mostly all burgandy sheet sets and several leopard print sets also.  I think they look great, they are just so fun and they match the room  colors  (I dont whip them out for a newbie but my regulars love them).

I remember my first set of sheets... they were given to my by the school, 120 thread count, yellow sheets.The first time I used them I was horrified that they were translucent! Yikes! Good thing I had a towel handy, as the lights were full on as we were just learning massage techniques!I complained and got them exhanged!No more yellow sheets for me!

I think feel/texture is more important than color.  If you've never, get on your table and see how it feels - everything, sheets, temp, the ceiling (which is often overlooked), lighting, etc.  You might be surprised.  Of course, color is going to play a bigger role when the client enters the room and gets an initial feel for the room itself. It's interesting how different people are with preferences.  I would think my therapist was a "dip" if she put completely mismatched sheets on the table, but personally, I will mix solids or use a solid with a subtle print.  I have some more "exotic" sheets and some "fun" ones, I save those for clients I already know.  Like the 1st grade teacher- I found these awesome Miss Piggy sheets at a thift store and she got a kick out of them.  A client who loves pale flowery sheets and pastels- bottom pale pink and pale green flowered patterned, pink sheet on top with a fancy ribboned seam.  She said "oh, look, you got new sheets, I never noticed those before, their new, aren't they?"  She really liked them and I will make a mental note of that.  Of course, my practice is very low-key, a nice town.  People in the salon I used to work at probably would have complained even though the massage cost just the same.oh well... the humans are a curious species...lol

When receiving massages I have never cared about the color of the sheets.  The only thing I care about is how good or bad the massage is..

I care a great deal about the color & presentation of the sheets & blankets, etc I use. I just recently bought new sheets for my practice from Linens N Things. They are awesomely soft, launder very well & add a beautiful look to the set up massage treatment room when the client gets their first peek. I bought Gramercy Park Sateen sheets in burgundy, taupe & mustardy-gold. They have a soft sheen to them (not shiny or slippery at all). I am using Five Star twin sized cotton blankets in the same colors (except I am using a deep purple to go with the taupe - I hated the neutral colors of the blankets). They are $24.99 for each set (fitted, flat & 1 pillow case).V-E-R-Y much worth the investment. I feel like I redecorated my room!When being a client, I never 'judge' anyone's talent by their sheets, but I am always pleased to the bone when MTs take their time to set a nice environment with special touches. The last massage room I was a client in was gorgeous - all very much a Tuscany feel. The sheets were egyptian cotton; a burnt orangey-red. The blanket was a lightweight, soft tan basket weave. I got 2 sets of the Dakota Blue poly cotton sheets from Massage Warehouse, and I love them! They seem very cozy to me, and feel great. I like the matching face cradle covers, too. The only down side is they show oil and must be laundered carefully to make sure they don't stain.Other than that  I use white sheets or solid bottom with printed covers.

I have to admit i might be concerned as a client that the sheets where sheer. However that wouldnt just be with men. I do feel more confortable when i have a large towl on my torso. I use a fleece cut and usually have it folded in half over the sheets on the persons torso, but if someone is cold it fits over the whole body.

Here is teh fashion rule i suppose. White or black mixed with any other sheet is so very fine. However mixing green and purple would be alittle wierd. Now genrally i dont pay attention. So using the white fitted sheet with colored or even pattern top sheet is fine. Also dont mix 2 patterns!

I had a massage where the MT used white muslin sheets. I felt so exposed that I could barely stand the massage. I have found by experience that most white sheets are usually see-thru in the lights so it is nice if the top sheet is darker or a patterned color. Of course what really matters is the softness. Lying on a cloud for an hour is what it is all about.

Wow, here's my old thread! I just bought some new sheets, 250 and 300 thread count, from KMart, Martha Stewart brand. Clearance, or I wouldn't have even looked at them. Got 2 sets of Red and a light yellow fitted sheet, a greenish fitted fitted sheet to use with a pair of brownish flat sheets. In the winter I use a fleece blanket too. Usually ivory.

I don't personally worry about sheets but they always match. Even the blanket. I always use a blanket because with the AC on, its chilly for most clients.

When I go for massage, again, I could care less. But my use for massage is not for relaxation, its for rehablitation work. I can relax at home!

Where I work, the owner has only solid red and blue sheet sets. I used to always make sure everything matched and was coordinated. Then I started noticing that people had a really hard time distinguishing between the fitted sheet and the flat sheet. I would even fold the top sheet over and kind of pull it back when I explain to them how I wanted them to lay on the table, underneath the sheet. Well, I would come in and they would still be undressed laying on top of the sheet :shock:
I get alot of first timers who get gift certificates for a massage and I think it confuses them. You know how on tv sometimes they'll show people getting a massage with a tiny towel draped over them so they aren't quite sure about the sheet. Plus along with the nervousness of not knowing what to expect and just hear what they want to hear.
So now I purposely use both the sets of sheets (red fitted with blue top sheet or vice versa) so they have no problem distinguishing which sheet is what. Since I've started doing that, I've never had a problem since.

I only use white sheets. Not for any particular reason but the fabric store had a sale on white sheeting material, so when I made my sheets thats what I bought.

I use a deep red blanket on top, and I always pull everything back to one side when I get a new client on the table.

I don't think if I went to a place that had mismatched sheets I would care. As long as they give good massages.
