A St. Louis massage therapist was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of the second-degree sexual assault of several women during massages, according to the Boone County Sheriff Department.
Karl Arthur Swope, 67, was being held on $10,000 bond in the Boone County Jail.
Swope was accused of inappropriately putting his hand into one of his victims' underwear. The woman reportedly told the police she went to Swope for shoulder and neck pain twice in April, according to previous Missourian reporting.
The woman told police she was afraid to say anything during the massages because she was worried she was overreacting, Columbia Police detective Patrick Corcoran wrote in a probable cause statement. After the second incident, she canceled all future visits with Swope.
Swope was accused by the Missouri Board of Therapeutic Massage of operating without a license and touching several women inappropriately during the massages. He agreed to stop performing therapy massages, according to a motion to dismiss filed Sept. 6.
Swope's massage therapist license expired in 1996, Lori Croy, spokeswoman for the Division of Professional Registration, said in a previous report.
