Surf Towns with Action

Hi All - I'll be going down soon to do some surfing on the Pacific coast with my borther. Any info on the best surf/beach towns that also offer action, and where to find, will be greatly appreciated! Specifically, we're looking at Quepos and Tamarindo, but other info is most welcome. Ciao

would suggest tamarindo for you guys. there are always some girs around looking for activities. you might find your girl at night in front of the mambo bar ... in the so-called interview-area ...

Jaco is probably the only beach town with a large selection. I might be wrong but all the other beach towns seem hit and miss.

FYI

Tamarindo is loaded with providers. Problem is, there is no one central gathering spot where they assemble.

Also, most of the finer hotels frown on taking these "guests" to your room, and those that allow it tack on heavy charges for the "upgrade".

You have to have an eye for these girls as they generally do not approach you (unless you are a fat, balding, middle-aged Gringo that looks rich).

The Boss is right on about the ‘Grrls of Tamarindo’…

In a lot of cases it is the security guy that will make the call if you don’t have to cross the front desk to get to your room. Check this out before you head to town. If you get lucky a little ‘grease’ make the slide to you room much easier…You will have to think of what to say at the time, but it seldom fail to save you money and it goes to a better cause than the hotel...

You can try the bar in Tamorindo called the why not lounge. Some british guy owns it. They have rooms right there they have plenty of girls working that bar but tamorindo is a small town and if you want to try to take a girl back to your room try one of the disco's 1st.

Playa Negra has some of the best waves in the country and its really easy paddle out since its a reefbreak. If you have a few surfer buddys going with you you could try and get this place. Its right on the point. http://www.costa-rica-surfing.com/ it has 3 bedrooms 6 beds washer dryer full size refridge and unbeliveable veiws from the balcony hamocks.

If there is a nice south swell comming in you wont find a better wave on the whole pacific coast IMO its very hollow and fast. Over the last 20 years i have surfed everything from Salsa Brava (if you look at the picture of the 20 foot wave on the del rey calanader this is puerto viejo) to Witches Rock.

Or you can always just go and stay in hermosa beach and hit up the beatle bar.

I was in tamorindo last week and the Why Not Lounge is now closed. We stayed at the porta fino place. We really liked the room we had there it had 2 seperate bedrooms a big refridge a few really good fans and a little couch area with tv and stuff it was like having a little apartment. There is a good supermarket right around the corner if you want to cook anything.

Tamarindo has changed a lot there is alot of construction going on and alot of seedy charactors running around. It was my friends 1st time there he didnt like it very much im sure he would have liked it more if the why not was still open.

If your in this area to surf I would try playa negra, witches rock, Or ollies point. Negra is like 30 min from tamarindo but well worth it. witches you can usally drive there in the dry season. Just bring your board and some water and maybe a few snacks. Lots of thieves around there camping. You have to walk about a mile to the rock so they know you wont be around for quite a while.

I have never taken a boat but that is probly the safest way and most comfortable way to go. If the waves are breaking good at tamarindo beach they will be good at withes roch and portero.

Just curious...is the 'Mother of Fear' surf shop still in business in Jaco?
It was located across the street from the Beatle Bar.

Jaco #1, Tamarindo #2, Flamingo ?3

As far as sheer volume of women and thus more flexable pricing and options, Jaco is the best beach town I have been to. It does seem that the trade off is the seedy element and overdevelopment. I went to Tamarindo recently and hooked up with a Tica for free for 6 days. Turns out she was a drunk and was just happy to have an open bar tab every day. Did not see too many opportunities for mongering but they were there. Definetly a nicer town, though, again it seems you have to trade off the natural beauty of CR for the overdeveloped areas if you want to find the willing Ticas.

Older posts have suggested Playa Flamingo as a decent mongering spot, and have said Manuel Antonio is poor at present. I am going out next week and will hopefully hit a few of the beach towns including Flamingo.

Tica Friendly Hotel in Tamarindo

I forgot to mention, I stayed at a great French run hotel that was very chica friendly in Tamarindo. Cabinas La Laguna Del Cocodrilo 653-0205 claude@racsa.co.cr. French baker had fresh cresants for bfast every morning, nice room facing beach with hammok nearby, friendly staff - totally no problem hanging with my Tica for 6 days - they even let her eat the free breakfast. And as the name implies, there is a lagoon of crocadiles next door. So wear your shoes when outside!
