Seems to me that a lot of women chose to embrace "L" relationships and lifestyle because they have had NOT good-horrific experiencesuch: with men.

Sexual orientation is an innate desire, not something you can select with a mental dial. Indeed, some women choose a same sex relationship due to bad hetero relashionships in the past, but those would fall under the bi or pan-sexual orientation. They would not fall under the 100% gay side according to the Kinsey scale.

Well, the same can be said for men too. Probably why many just skip the ordeal and go for the escort.......

But I thought this thread was going to be on the new Showtime series: The Real L word where they are following around real life lesbians and they found some just like the characters in the fictional series......

There was a documentary on the other night on just this topic. The premise was 2 lesbians were driving cross country and looking for bi sexual women along the way in the various states.

They also spoke with some "experts" and stated some stats that supposedly there are something like 30 - 40 % more bisexual women than there was 20 yrs ago. One expert noted that with so many girl on girl kisses in mainstream tv, the oc, the madonna spears kiss, etc that young women now feel it is more acceptable to act on their feelings. They stated that in the past, probably many women felt that while they were attracted to women, that acting on those feelings was something to bury. Now with all the mainstream coverage, they can 'come out'.

I mean, you can kind of see their point. Back when I was in highschool I NEVER saw two girls making out. Now? Heck, youtube is filled with girl on girl (and i'm not talking porn)......

Cultural factors are also huge in influencing preferences and how humans choose to ACT on their infinite predilections. In an ideal world, we would likely all frisk around like bonobo chimpsarty:.
Everything I have read (and observed) suggests that few humans are hard wired (DNA, in utero..?)absolutely one way or the other, with countless variations of 'bi', 'pan' and 'a' in between.

What I should clarify with my 100% reference, is those women who chose not to interact sexually with men, and either in private or openly, identify as "L". Some are 'hardwired', many not so much, and some might be more bi at the other end of the spectrum- if life hadnt dealt them a bad hand:frown:.
