Things to neutralize odor?

Hi, I have some clients who really enjoy scents with massage{ as I do} and I have a few clients who are very sensitive to scents. Someone else does my scheduling so I cannot control the placement of people.
My question is, has anyone found a way to illiminate the scent of the previous clients aromatherapy choice such as if my first client wanted a Roses massage and the next person had sensitivities to all scents, is there a product out there I could use to neutralize the room? Anyone found a great product?

If someone has an actual sensitization to scents, particularly essential oils, I doubt dumping more substances into the air is going to help... perhaps an ozone type product followed by a fan to briefly air things out?

Perhaps that would be more than fine for people who just don't like the smell.

The folks doing your scheduling can't be trained to take this stuff into account?

Ahhhh, in a perfect world. People who do my scheduling also schedule for MD's Life style coach,etc. so they are doing their best.

I do have a special person coming for a first time massage and she is wary because the two people before her are new and may ask for a scent and then it may cause her to react. I don't have another room to use and I'm searching for an odor neutralizer to make her scent - free experience just as pleasent. Oh, well.....

Do you have a window in your room? (I realize this is unlikely, but if you do, opening it between sessions is helpful). Otherwise, try putting a fan in the doorway of your treatment room, with the air blowing out. Ideally, this will suck the scented air out of the room and allow new, clean air to enter.

Another idea would be to try an air purifier. Massage Warehouse has one on sale right now for $35:

Go to QVC.com and look for X-O odor neutralizer and it'll bring up Item Number V13286, an 8 oz spray bottle w/ 32 oz refill. They Used to carry the gallon container as well.

Or just type in X-O odor neutralizer into google and you get lots of info on it.
I mean there are tons of places that carry it... and it's readily available on e-bay as well.

It is useful in neutralizing lots of odors... it's often used for neutralizing the smell of cigarette smoke or pet odors... among other things. When you spray it into the air or on fabric for a minute or two it does have a faint smell, however it's not unpleasant and disipates quickly.
My mother was Very sensitive to smells, but X-O did not bother her. And as a matter of fact, lovely_day, most essential oils did not bother her either. Mom loved it when I used the pure essential oils on her.
The only thing I was restricted from with her was using eucaplyptus oils, for some reason it didn't agree with her.

On the other hand, we have relatives up staying at a local hotel, and one of them had a reaction to something that was used in their room, probably in the cleaning process... whatever was used seemed to bring on something like an asthma attack. So I took over my air purifier/ionizer and she laid down for a nap in the same room and was able to breathe much better.
Additionally if noise is an issue... the air purifier/ionizer would provide "white noise"... and the negative ions tend to make you feel good. :wink:
Just something to consider...

I just learned of two more natural room deodorizers:

1. Fill a plant mister with a solution of four tablespoons baking soda and a quart of warm water. Spray into air to cut the odor.
2. Light beeswax candles. They're natural ionizers/air purfiers.

look in any aisle of your local kmart, walmart, target etc... you'll find a product that you spray in the air to neutralize the odor. i forget what the stuff is that i've used in the past. it will leave no scent and it will get rid of whatever odor is lingering in the room. it takes the smell out immediately. it's great.

A quick update:

I tried the Baking Soda Neutralizer (as written in the tip above). I mixed 4 tablespoons of baking soda in a quart bottle with warm water, and then sprayed throughout my office after a scented massage session. I guess I forgot that everything that goes up must come down. After about five minutes, I noticed that my whole office was polka-dotted with little white round droplet stains. Picture your car after driving on salted city streets during a snowstorm. That was the way my furniture now looked. Whooooeeeee! What a mess. The odor remained, and I now had to clean my entire office. So, definitely skip that solution, and try the store-bought ones instead.

X-O Odor Neutralizer product review:

OK. I bought this product and tried it in my office. This is what the bottle says: "Natural and Organic Odor Neutralizer. Biodegradable. Non-toxic. X-O neutralizes all odors, instantly and permanently. Use X-O to obtain a fresh, odorless environment without a lingering scent."

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but their claim is completely untrue. It has a strong smell of citrus and pine. It gave me a headache immediately upon use, and definitely is far worse than leaving an essential oil smell in the air, in my opinion. The smell didn't dissipate quickly. It's still there 30 minutes later, so for freshening a treatment room between appointments, it's ineffective.

If I was struggling with smoke or pet odors at home, I might try it. But for use in the office, I don't think it's helpful.

Thank you for reporting your findings, Blisss. It saves me some efforts! I've found that Odo-Ban (from Sams club in concentrate, but I've seen it in non-concentrate form in spray bottles recently in Walmart) is very good at killing odors, even pet odors - but it is eucalyptus based, and for awhile that scent hangs around. It's natural eucalyptus, not "scented", so it doesn't bother me a bit. It won't work for everyone, though.
